Job Description
The Electrical Engineer is a contract to hire position that will serve as the primary technical owner for Synapse ITS Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and supercapacitor product lines. This role focuses on power electronics development, advanced energy storage management, and hardware reliability for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and traffic control infrastructure. Travel exceeding 50% is expected during the first 6–9 months to support onboarding, customer engagement, product validation, and field support activities.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintain and enhance electronic designs for existing product lines.
- Own the electronic system design cycle from requirements through launch and beyond.
- Design, develop, test and debug electronic designs.
- Integrate, verify and validate new product designs and design changes.
- Perform design reviews.
- Interface with a cross-functional engineering team.
- Support the Tech Support team with intimate product knowledge.

Education: Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering
Skills and Experience:
- 6+ years of experience in power electronics design, embedded systems, or industrial hardware development.
- Hands-on experience with converter/inverter topologies, switching power supplies (SMPS), magnetics design, and high-current PCB layout.
- Familiarity with supercapacitors, battery management systems (BMS), or cell balancing architectures.
- Schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium.
- Circuit simulation.
- DFx Experience (e.g. Assembly, Manufacturing, Test, etc.)
- Experience in microcontroller based digital design.
- Experience in basic analog design.
- Knowledge of wired communication interfaces, such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB and Ethernet.
- Knowledge of wireless technologies, such as Bluetooth Low Energy and Wi-Fi.
- Experience with oscilloscopes, multi-meters and similar tools, to debug and validate electronic designs.
- Familiarity with PCBA manufacturing processes.
- Experience qualifying designs for EMC/EMI compliance.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational and follow-up skills.
- Solid problem-solving skills. Highly technical, quickly grasping how things work.
- Presents technical concepts, ideas, and information in terms that both engineers and non-engineers can understand.
- Motivated by continuous learning and development.
