- Design, develop, test, and maintain secure, scalable, and reliable backend services, APIs, and data systems.
- Provide technical direction across multiple applications and services while remaining actively involved in implementation.
- Lead architecture discussions, document technical decisions, and establish engineering best practices.
- Translate product and business requirements into clear technical strategies and actionable development plans.
- Break down complex initiatives, coordinate technical efforts, manage dependencies, and help teams deliver effectively.
- Collaborate with product, operations, and engineering teams to ensure successful delivery of high-quality solutions.
- Design and maintain APIs, database structures, integrations, and data contracts that support evolving product needs.
- Improve system performance, security, observability, reliability, and maintainability through continuous technical improvements.
- Review code and technical designs while helping maintain strong engineering standards.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues, lead incident responses, and contribute to system stability.
- Develop automated tests, technical documentation, and CI/CD workflows to improve development efficiency.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers while promoting knowledge sharing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 6+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
- Experience providing technical leadership while continuing to contribute hands-on to engineering work.
- Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives spanning multiple systems or services.
- Strong programming experience with Python, Go, or similar backend technologies.
- Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI, Gin, or comparable tools.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases, including schema design and query optimization, preferably with PostgreSQL.
- Solid understanding of HTTP, REST, JSON, XML, and modern web technologies.
- Experience operating and supporting production systems, including debugging issues and responding to incidents.
- Familiarity with automated testing, continuous integration, Git, and modern software development workflows.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience working effectively within remote and distributed engineering teams.
- Knowledge of message brokers, cloud platforms, containerization technologies, API security practices, networking, or internet protocols is considered an asset.
- Competitive annual base salary range of CA$145,000–CA$155,000 for Canadian residents.
