Job Description

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

  • Promote a culture of excellence through fully implementing all QEHS programs, demonstrating personal ownership and accountability, and supporting continuous improvement programs
  • Provides coordination for all site electrical needs including existing and future states.
  • Maintain all electrical, instrumentation, and control systems within the plant. This includes using Rockwell Software tools to troubleshoot control issues and perform minor PLC/HMI program changes as needed.
  • Work alongside mechanical and engineering staff to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to acceptable levels of workmanship
  • Works closely with Controls Engineering group on new process installations and existing process modifications that require electrical, instrumentation and controls changes or additions.

JOB SCOPE/DIMENSIONS

This role is a key operations support role that is required to work with all departments within the Houston Operation. This role works effectively to maintain and troubleshoot up to 480 VAC electrical motor control systems, field instrumentation, programmable controllers, lighting, and other support systems. This role will work as needed with Controls Engineering group as well as outside contractors in maintenance, design, and construction of all electrical and control related systems within the Houston Operation

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fully supports location health, safety, environmental and quality programs (HSEQ) by participating in their implementation, maintenance, and enforcement as well as compliance with corporate programs and policies.
  • Ensure that maintenance is planned, scheduled, and performed in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure equipment availability is adequate to meet the budget expectations.
  • Lead proactive maintenance versus reactive maintenance, encouraging all production and maintenance personnel to communicate work to be planned and scheduled.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting electrical and control issues using Volt/Ohm meters, amp meters, meggers.
  • Provides hands on assistance to plant personnel with trouble shooting process issues in any of the plant’s production systems.
  • Performs general instrument/electrical maintenance under the direction of the maintenance manager, including electronic, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic instrumentation and accurately calibrating meters and transmitters.
  • Solid understanding of Allen Bradley VFD’s and Soft Starts from installation and start-up to maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Uses Rockwell Software PLC programming software to help troubleshoot issues and performs minor program changes working closely with Controls Engineering group.
  • Implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Knowledge of Plant Ethernet Networks and Rockwell Ethernet/IP Communication
  • Troubleshoots FANUC Robotics
  • Assists Process engineer in acquiring process data for analysis via Factory Talk Historian,
  • Collaborates with engineering, production, sourcing, and maintenance personnel in the improvement and/or optimization of plant instrumentation and processes.
  • Proposes instrumentation maintenance schedules and tasks to maintain efficacy and reliability.
  • Assists Maintenance department with motor or other component replacement as needed.
  • Keeps Plant electrical inspection ready for MSHA inspections and responds quickly to abate any infraction.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience requirements:

  • Technical school certificate/degree in Industrial Electrical Maintenance or related field or ability to test out of by proving competency of program material; Master Electrician and/or Journeyman license highly preferred.
  • Three to five years’ experience in overall plant maintenance.
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain one of the following: State electrical license OSHA or MSHA electrical certification, or other formal training or electrical certification or ISA instrumentation certification.

Knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics:

  • Significant demonstrable knowledge and experience in the area of plant instrumentation, electrical systems and maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment wiring diagrams, and piping and instrument diagrams.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other management staff, employees and the general public.
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and competing priorities, and time management also required.
  • Must be able to maintain professional demeanor at all times and be able to build credibility with all levels within the organization.
  • Developed computer skills needed for calibration programs and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Strong working knowledge of Programmable Control Systems.
  • Experience with various Microsoft programs including Word, and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills required to liaise with internal project teams and external vendors.
  • Strong organization skills along with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment with changing priorities and time pressures
  • Ability to take field measurements to verify new installation or modifications
  • Excellent working knowledge of state and local electrical codes
  • Experience in the design and layout new electrical systems
  • Work with and oversee outside electrical contractors to ensure projects meet timelines
  • Ability to troubleshoot all types of electrical issues from 480V motor testing to 24 VDC control wiring
