Job Purpose/Summary

The Staff Accountant will be a member of the Finance team and is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of general ledger accounting. The Staff Accountant will prepare reports according to schedule and will collaborate with other Finance team members to complete month-end, quarter-end, and year-end processes within designated time frames. The position will also perform various general accounting tasks. In this role, the Staff Accountant helps ensure the integrity of the company’s financial records, supports compliance with US GAAP and internal controls, and contributes to accurate, timely financial reporting that informs decisions across the organization. The role works closely with the broader Finance and Accounting team and offers exposure to the full accounting cycle within a publicly traded company. This is a hands-on role in an AI-enabled finance function: routine processing is increasingly handled by automation and AI agents, and the Staff Accountant’s focus is on reviewing their output, owning exceptions, applying accounting judgment, and helping improve those workflows.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end processes including reporting, flux analysis, and forecasting
  • Manage fixed assets accounting. Reconcile invoices, prepare information for input to fixed asset system. Prepare monthly roll forward report and monitor controls including physical asset count.
  • Prepare and maintain the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Aging with monthly reconciliation
  • Assist with accounting of company’s fleet program and correctly allocate expenses to the proper department
  • Prepare Concur weekly journal entries, along with monthly accruals
  • Prepare weekly check runs for management to review, then process payments
  • Assist with posting journal entries with other members of the finance team
  • Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the general ledger, researching and resolving discrepancies as needed
  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and analyze variances against prior periods
  • Support internal control compliance, including walkthroughs and testing, in a publicly traded environment
  • Reconcile related party transactions and assist with consolidation activities
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and strengthen internal controls, including opportunities to apply AI and automation
  • Operate and review AI-assisted accounting workflows (e.g., reconciliation support, AP automation, close checklists); own exception handling, escalate unresolved items, and maintain audit-ready documentation of human review
  • Partner with Finance leadership to identify, test, and document new automation and AI use cases across the close and reporting cycles
  • Perform ad hoc duties and assigned projects
  • Support the external auditors with requests

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 1–2+ years direct experience with General Ledger Accounting in a publicly traded company or 1+ years of public accounting experience
  • Hands-on experience with ERP-based accounting software packages preferred; proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • At the time of this posting, the salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000. Actual compensation is commensurate with job related knowledge, skills, experience, and location of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and priorities to meet objectives
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP and general accounting principles
  • Experience with SOX compliance and internal controls in a publicly traded environment preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in AI and automation — hands-on use of AI assistants, Excel automation, Power Automate, or similar tools to improve work product (CPA not required)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
