Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, social services, or counseling fields/AR licensure required; Master’s degree preferred with the preferred following licensure LCSW/LPC/RN
- Training and Experience: 2 years experience working in the acute psychiatric setting preferred, must be licensed in the state of Arkansas. Must have or obtain current CPI certification.
- Job Knowledge: Knowledge of acute psychiatric needs and admission criteria, knowledge of assessment of patient psychiatric status, knowledge of access to resources and systems of care.
Job Summary: The Intake Manager is responsible to performing a comprehensive pre-admission screening, identify mental health needs, and make recommendations for appropriate level of care including admissions, referrals, resource allocation and alternative level of care. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to assess and provide interventions appropriate to the condition and age of patients served. Must demonstrate familiarity with the principles of mental health assessment, status, crisis intervention, and growth/development throughout the life cycle. Responsible to gather clinical data/admission criteria and complete pre-admission screening documentation to justify admission. Responsible for liaison role with physicians, nursing staff, courts, community providers, referral sources, and internal customers. Prefer Master’s Degree in Behavioral Health field with clinical experience.
Job Responsibilities:
- Communicates pertinent information to all parties involved to include but not limited to patients, families, physicians, case managers, and payers.
- Communicates accurate information regarding patient’s psychiatric and medical status, comorbidities, functional/cognitive status, risk factors, patient’s discharge plans, criteria and recommendation for disposition.
- Stays well informed concerning admission criteria, conditions of participation admission requirements, medical necessity criteria, CMS program updates as appropriate to pre-admission activities.
- Maintains a thorough working knowledge of the unit’s administrative operations and a familiarity with all aspects of the unit’s treatment program and clinical services.
- Provides on-site clinical assessments for potential patients within the hosptial as well as from external referral sources
- Accurately documents assessments to ensure complete data collection on the preadmission assessment form. Audits forms completed by all assisting staff (nursing, weekend coverage, night coverage) and coaches corrections as needed.
- Assists in alternative placement recommendations when patients are not appropriate for inpatient psychiatric admission.
- Assist with process for emergency detentions and involuntary admissions.
- Display good theoretical and practical knowledge of mental health and substance abuse disorders and treatments.
- Notify staff, physician and program director of any follow-ups that need to be addressed.
- Acts as liason between unit and hospital departments for screenings, admissions, and transfers. Maintains contact with hospital ER, Case Management, and other departments to coordinate care and services.
- Completes work and documentation within established time frame utilizing time well while at work and maintains a positive work ethic.
- Actively participates in treatment team meetings and in development/support of patient safety improvement activities.
- Maintain a positive, professional image in the hospital and in the community.
- Participates in coverage of the program to ensure patient access to services.
- Develops back-up system to handle referral calls and pre-admission assessments when not personally available.
- Any additional duties that are appropriate for the effective functioning of the program.
