Research Assistant Professor in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at University of Pittsburgh
Job Description
The Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh is inviting applications for the faculty position of Research Assistant Professor. The faculty member will play a key role in collaborative research programs applying cutting-edge imaging and molecular technologies to regenerative medicine, wound healing, and vascular repair at the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine (MIRM).
QUALIFICATIONS
• Must have a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Cell/Molecular Biology, or a related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in diabetic and chronic wound healing, including impaired-perfusion and ischemic wound models, using in vivo rodent models and human tissue.
• Specific experience with cutaneous vascular biology — angiogenesis, vasculogenesis, endothelial and fibroblast reprogramming, and in vivo tissue-perfusion assessment.
• Hands-on experience with cutting-edge imaging technologies applied to skin and vasculature, such as in vivo wound-perfusion imaging (e.g., laser speckle), high-resolution confocal and multiphoton microscopy, and single-cell molecular profiling of tissue.
• Experience with epigenetic and gene-regulatory approaches — DNA methylation/demethylation (e.g., TET-mediated), RNA methylation, epigenetic gene editing, and epithelial–mesenchymal transition biology.
• Experience with primary skin cell and ex vivo/organotypic skin work (fibroblast, endothelial, and keratinocyte culture and reprogramming).
• 5+ years of research experience in an academic research environment.
• Must be willing to work with animals and human subjects.
• Must be able to multitask and show interest in contributing to several concurrent projects in the Center.
• Tissue Nanotransfection (TNT) technology experience required.
• Electronic Lab Notebook (e.g., LabGuru) experience preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The qualified scientist will play a major role in a dynamic program in basic and translational research applying cutting-edge imaging and molecular reprogramming technologies to regenerative medicine, wound healing, and vascular repair at MIRM. The faculty member will use pre-clinical rodent models — supported by advanced in vivo perfusion imaging and single-cell/spatial molecular profiling — to study impaired diabetic and ischemic wound healing and to develop tissue-reprogramming and epigenetic gene-editing strategies (including TNT-based approaches) that restore perfusion and drive tissue repair. As this is a supporting role, the faculty member will partner with interdisciplinary scientists toward translational program building but will not be expected to have regular teaching or service responsibilities external to their research group. A successful candidate will also actively support grant submissions and submit grants as PI.
We offer a competitive academic salary, fringe benefits, and state-of-the-art facilities.
