Structural Welding Technician

Structural Welding Technician

Location: Virginia Beach, VA
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Pay: Starting at $20.00/hour (increases based on experience)

Overview

We are seeking skilled welders with fabrication experience to support operations in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role involves working with multiple welding techniques to produce and assemble structural components while meeting quality and safety standards.

Primary Responsibilities
Welding & Fabrication
  • Perform welding using methods such as MIG, TIG, wire feed, spot welding, and oxy-fuel
  • Fabricate structural components including frames, beams, and tanks in various welding positions
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine specifications
  • Prepare materials, complete weld finishing, and ensure work meets quality standards
Assembly & Equipment Use
  • Assemble parts using bolting, drilling, tapping, clamping, and cutting techniques
  • Operate hand tools and power equipment including grinders and sanders
  • Set up welding equipment and adjust settings such as gas flow and wire feed

Quality & Maintenance

  • Inspect materials, welds, and finished products for accuracy and compliance
  • Identify equipment issues and assist with basic troubleshooting
  • Support pressure testing and perform rework as needed

Documentation & Communication

  • Track production output and maintain accurate time records
  • Communicate progress, safety concerns, and quality issues to supervisors
Qualifications
Core Skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment
  • Willingness to learn new skills and cross-train
  • Solid understanding of workplace safety practices
  • Ability to follow instructions and manage multiple priorities

Experience & Requirements

  • Previous welding experience preferred (weld test may be required)
  • Experience with fabrication tools and welding equipment
  • Basic math skills and ability to read measurements accurately

Education & Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • MIG welding certification preferred
  • TIG welding experience or certification is a plus
  • Trade school or vocational training is a plus
