Senior Data Engineer in Karachi/Lahore/Islamabad at VentureDive

Job Brief:
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize modern data platforms on Azure and Snowflake for one of our key clients. You will own end-to-end pipeline development, dimensional modeling, and analytics enablement, working alongside AI tools and coding agents as part of AI-first delivery workflow.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable ETL/ELT pipelines (batch and incremental) on the Azure data stack, ADF, Synapse, ADLS.
• Architect and optimize Snowflake warehouses, including query performance tuning and cost optimization.
• Develop dimensional data models (star/snowflake) and dbt models aligned to medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold).
• Build Power BI semantic models with DAX-aware backend design to enable fast, reliable analytics.
• Implement data quality, validation, and monitoring frameworks across pipelines.
• Enforce data governance standards, lineage, cataloging, access control, and documentation.
• Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and client stakeholders to translate business needs into data products.
• Leverage AI coding agents and copilots to accelerate development, debugging, and code review across the data lifecycle.

Required Skills

• 8+ years of hands-on data engineering experience.
• Strong expertise across the Azure data stack: Azure Data Factory, Synapse, and ADLS.
• 3–5 years on Snowflake: schema design, performance tuning, and cost/warehouse optimization.
• Solid ETL/ELT pipeline experience covering both batch and incremental load patterns.
• Dimensional modeling expertise (star and snowflake schemas) for analytics workloads.
• Hands-on dbt for data modeling, testing, and documentation.
• Power BI semantic model optimization with awareness of DAX-driven backend design.
• Practical experience with data quality, validation frameworks, and pipeline monitoring.
• Working knowledge of medallion architecture and data governance practices.
• AI fluency: uses Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools as a daily part of the workflow.
• Comfortable working with coding agents end-to-end, from scaffolding pipelines and writing SQL/Python to generating tests, refactoring, and documentation.
• Critical thinking around AI output, validates, reviews, and refines AI-generated code rather than accepting it blindly.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric or Databricks.
• Exposure to streaming/real-time pipelines (Kafka, Event Hubs).
• Familiarity with CI/CD for data (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
• Snowflake or Azure certifications.
