Job Title: Free Reed Specialist

Reports to: Quality Control Manager

Department: Operations

Supervises: N/A

FLSA status: Exempt/Full-time

Location: Mt. Juliet, TN

Position summary: Provide oversight for KHSA’s Free Reed Service department which includes quality assurance, warranty repair, repair service orders and technical support to customer service for harmonicas, accordions, and melodicas.

Job Description

Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of the repair area to ensure smooth functionality.
  • Ensure the quality standards for KHSA’s free reed products are being fulfilled
  • Handle all warranty and service orders on a timely basis
  • Establish a process for quality assurance inspections
  • Share information and communicate issues with manufacturing employees in Germany along with co-workers in management, operations, sales and marketing through the QC reporting portal.
  • Provide technical support to customer service representatives
  • Maintain regular job attendance; days of work are Monday-Friday; hours of work 8-hour scheduled days; job may require additional work performed evenings and weekends

Nonessential functions:

  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Success factors/job competencies:

  • Strong technical knowledge of accordions and harmonicas is essential?
  • Deep, hands-on knowledge of accordion construction and repair, covering both diatonic and piano models
  • Strong ear and technical ability for accurate tuning and reed work across different tuning styles
  • Proven ability to handle complex repairs and custom setups for professional-level instruments
  • Knowledge of the music industry and how KHSA’s free reed products are marketed and sold
  • Strong team skills to work on group projects and other collaborative efforts
  • Time management skills
  • Empathy along with basic customer service skills to handle and resolve problems with products
  • Ability to understand and guide the work of the Technicians
  • Should possess sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Results oriented
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer proficiency including knowledge of SAP to process service orders.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite applications, Excel, Word etc.
  • Technical skills to assist in communicating with the manufacturing plant.

Physical demands: While performing the duties of the job, incumbent is required to:

  • Frequently stand on a concrete floor
  • Walk, talk and hear
  • Reach with hands and arms
  • Use hands to manipulate, grasp, or interact with objects, tools, or controls.
  • Employee will occasionally sit
  • Will lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional bending and stooping.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
  • Requires good relative pitch and tuning skills.

Work environment: Repair/Service area is climate controlled. Noise levels vary from minimal to moderate. Warehouse environment which includes temperature extremes, dust and fumes. Travel requirements for trade shows or customer visitors would include travel by motor vehicle or airplane.

Performance standards:

  • Annual performance appraisal – quarterly conversations
  • Attainment of annual and quarterly goals established between supervisor and incumbent.
Requirements:

Qualifications required:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 5+ years experience repairing and custom tuning harmonicas, accordions and melodicas
  • Experience as a player of harmonicas, accordions and/or melodicas
  • Understanding of basic OSHA requirements and reporting.

Qualifications desired:

  • Management experience running a free reed repair department
  • Inventory control experience
