Position Summary

As a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant with Aultman Medical Group you will be responsible for supporting our providers in delivering exceptional patient care. This includes but is not limited to rooming patients, vitals, drawing blood, giving vaccines, performing EKGs, answering phones, taking messages, sending messages to appropriate receiver, proposing refills, helping patients, providers and colleagues.

Family Medicine of Hartville is a Family Medicine practice with two providers located in Hartville, Ohio.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of approved Medical Assisting Program.
  • Obtain and maintain medical assistant certification: (CCMA, CMA, or RMA), within 90 days of hire.
  • Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support(BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.

  • 2-3 years of experience, but willing to train new grad.

Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Performs selected clinical and clerical duties.
  • Enters physician orders/instructions into EMR system.
  • Prepares charts 1 week in advance gathering all outside consults/diagnostic testing/lab work ordered and performed since last visit.
    • Prints Enhanced Encounter Forms.
    • Identifies Medicare Wellness patients.
    • Optum forms as directed by Quality.
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Takes patient histories and vital signs.
    • Obtains vital signs (height, weight, BP, pulse, oxygen level).
    • Reviews and updates medical hx, surgery hx, social hx, family hx, and advanced directives.
    • Completes medication reconciliation (verifies medication, dosage and instructions).
    • Verifies patient pharmacy.
    • Completes depression and fall screenings at appropriate times.
  • Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments.
  • Gives injections and applies dressings as required.
    • Obtains and runs testing as ordered (urine dip, glucose, EKG, PT/INR, urine drug screen, blood work, urine pregnancy, rapid strep, rapid influenza).
  • Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments.
  • Performs nurse visits – including education of physician’s orders to patient and proper charting after visit.
  • Assists providers in preparing for physical exams.
  • Assist providers with procedures as needed (Pap, minor procedures).
  • Assists with scheduling of tests and treatments and managing referrals in referral management.
  • Triage calls as needed.
  • Take off voice mail message at regular intervals.
  • Provides general information on departmental policies and procedures.
  • Identifies clinical and office supplies and equipment needed and notifies lead and/or practice manager.
  • Maintains patient files, records, and other information.
    • Obtains information from paper charts or Allscripts (as needed).
    • Requests records from outside offices or provides information to PSR.
  • Compiles and condenses technical and statistical data for reports and records.
  • Attends required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Maintains vaccine and lab frig/freezer logs.
  • Stocks and cleans rooms in between patients, end of day and as needed.
  • Completes end of day check list and provides to office lead.
  • Performs department specific work as required.
  • Complies with all statutory regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Cross trained to check in/check out patients, make appointments, work front desk.
  • Close loops on tests & referrals.
  • Process prior authorization for testing and medications.
  • Monitor clinical pool and personal inbox.
  • Work as a team to manage the work queue.
  • Cross trained to check in/check out patients, make appointments, work front desk.
  • Ensure all TCM appointments are scheduled within 7 days of discharge from the hospital in addition to TCM form completion.
  • Monitors Outlook emails daily.
  • Manages Work Queue manager by scanning and indexing outside documents.
  • Complete all outstanding items in multi-patient task list.
  • Assist in the completion of all quality initiatives.
  • Aid in the amendment of all incomplete or incorrect billing errors.

Working Conditions

  • Monday through Thursday full shift and a half shift on Friday with a lunch break daily.
  • Lunch breaks are coordinated with other staff members for adequate coverage.
  • May require paid overtime before or after normal working hours.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions during performance of duties.
  • Expected to adhere to office policy and procedures.
  • Cross training in all areas in the department is required.
  • Staff may be assigned to different locations within the practice.

Hazardous Exposure Category

Category I - Includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for spills or splashes of, or mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
