Job Description
The City of Stockbridge is seeking a Wastewater Collections Systems Operator I to perform entry-level maintenance, repair, inspection, and upkeep of the City's wastewater collection systems and related infrastructure. This position performs preventive and corrective maintenance on sewer lines, lift stations, maintenance holes, regulators, outfalls, and other wastewater system components. This position operates a variety of hand and power tools, vehicles, lights, and heavy equipment; performs sewer-line cleaning and inspection; maintains equipment; records systems and equipment readings; reports sewer spills; and follows established safety procedures. The successful candidate must be dependable, safety-conscious, physically capable, and willing to obtain required wastewater and operational licenses.
Major Duties
- Wastewater Collection System Maintenance - Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on sewer lines, lift stations, maintenance holes, regulators, outfalls, and other collection system components.
- Sewer Line Cleaning & Inspection - Clears sewer lines using jet machines, rodding machines, vacuum trucks, video inspection equipment, and other specialized tools.
- Equipment Operations & Maintenance - Operates hand tools, power tools, trucks, lights, and heavy equipment; performs routine inspections, cleaning, and maintenance.
- Systems Monitoring & Documentation - Records pump and facility readings, monitors operational efficiency, documents findings, and maintains required reports and records.
- Wastewater Site & Infrastructure Upkeep - Performs landscaping, grading, repairs, and general maintenance at sewer sites, sewer right-of- way, lift stations, and the Wastewater Reclamation Facility.
- Safety & Emergency Response - Reports and logs sewer system spills and participates in required safety training, including confined space entry, hazardous/explosive atmospheres, traffic safety, and general workplace safety.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of wastewater collection systems, including sewer lines, lift stations, maintenance holes, regulators, outfalls, and related infrastructure.
- Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures, including confined space entry, traffic control, hazardous atmospheres, and general workplace safety.
- Skill in operating hand tools, power tools, vehicles, and specialized wastewater equipment, including jet machines, rodding machines, vacuum trucks, and video inspection.
- Ability to perform preventive and corrective maintenance and identify conditions requiring repair or additional attention.
- Ability to accurately record, document, and report operational information, including equipment readings, maintenance activities, and wastewater system spills.
- Ability to work effectively in physically demanding outdoor environments, follow instructions, work independently and as part of a team, and respond appropriately to operational safety concerns.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required; a minimum of one (1) year of related work experience required, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position; must possess or obtain within 12 months of hire the Georgia Wastewater Collection License, Georgia Commercial Driver's License, and Flaggers License. Must have a valid Georgia driver's license.
