POSITION OVERVIEW

The Project Manager oversees the execution of complex project shipments across multiple transportation modes, including heavy lift and barge. Project Managers are responsible for managing vendor relationships, and ensuring operational, financial, and customer service objectives are met. This role contributes to the strategic development of processes, implements best practices, and partners with leadership to drive continuous improvement and customer growth.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and coordinate import/export shipments using various modes of transportation.
  • Create shipment files, arrange for pick-ups, and obtain necessary documentation.
  • Enter shipments into CargoWise within 3 business days of handover and upload required documentation (AES, EDI, booking confirmations, etc.).
  • Follow approved handovers, work instructions, and checklists to minimize errors.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and foreign trade regulations.
  • Track shipments proactively and provide timely updates to customers, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Monitor costs, remain within budget, and flag opportunities for operational improvements.
  • Issue draft invoices within 10–15 working days of delivery; follow up with vendors to close billing.
  • Maintain KPIs (CargoWise accuracy, Edocs, billing timeliness, customer service responsiveness). – Conduct in-person handover meetings prior to project initiation and upon project completion to ensure clear communication, continuity, and successful execution.
  • Stay current with all assigned training in Fracht Academy.
  • Deliver excellent customer service: meeting deadlines, resolving issues, and ensuring clear communication.
  • Workload includes multi-scope, all modes, complex project moves, OOG, heavy lift, and barge moves.
  • Ensure operational efficiency and financial performance: monitor budgets, cost control, and profitability on all shipments.
  • Oversee vendor management while project is ongoing negotiate rates, evaluate performance, and implement cost-effective strategies.
  • Drive client retention and growth: ensure customer satisfaction through service excellence, communication, and relationship management.
  • Contribute to procedures for operational execution, compliance, strategic initiatives, and reporting.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, reduce risk, and enhance quality.
  • Escalation point for client, vendor, and operational issues requiring higher-level resolution.
  • Promote Fracht’s Core Values and model a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning.
  • Demonstrate strong project management skills with the ability to effectively plan, organize, and prioritize multiple shipments.
  • Demonstrate strong problem solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on finding innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Participate in vendor and client visits and meetings, including attending project kickoff meetings with all key stakeholders, both virtually and in person.
  • Provide guidance and informal mentorship to Coordinators and Specialists, supporting their development.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • 8-10 years of experience in project logistics operations.
  • Strong leadership in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-scope shipments.
  • Experience with budgets, financial performance, and profitability.
  • Strong background in vendor negotiation and client management.
  • Experience in contributing to developing team members at multiple levels.
  • In dept knowledge of transportation and logistics processes, including customs regulations and documentation requirement
  • Proficiency in CargoWise a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently, safely, and successfully in accordance with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
