Location: Newport News, VA
Employment Type: Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire
Shift: 1st and 3rd Shift available (must be flexible based on team needs)
Pay: Starting at $18.00/hour (based on experience)
Overview
We are seeking a skilled CNC Punch Press Operator to support sheet metal fabrication operations. This position involves setting up, programming, and running CNC turret punch equipment to produce precision parts. The role requires a strong understanding of tooling, material behavior, and blueprint interpretation, along with the ability to maintain consistent quality and production output.
Primary Responsibilities- Set up and operate CNC turret punch machines, including loading programs and preparing materials
- Select, install, and align punches, dies, and forming tools based on job requirements
- Review and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure accurate production
- Optimize punch layouts and patterns to improve efficiency and minimize waste
- Monitor machine performance and identify issues such as tool wear, misfeeds, or material inconsistencies
- Perform in-process inspections using measuring tools to verify part accuracy
- Make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and production flow
- Maintain detailed production and inspection records
- Coordinate with engineering, fabrication, and leadership teams to meet deadlines
- Organize workflow to support consistent throughput and high-quality output
- Minimum of 5 years of CNC turret punch experience
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Knowledge of materials such as galvanized steel, aluminum, and stainless steel
- Experience using precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers)
- Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting skills
- Solid math skills, including geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to estimate timelines and manage workload effectively
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks such as standing, bending, and squatting for extended periods
- Comfortable working in varying temperature conditions
- Experience editing G-code
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software
- Forklift operation experience
- Exposure to project coordination or management
