JOB TITLE: ER Registration HUC (Health Unit Coordinator)
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for creating the first impression of the hospital's services to patient's, families, and other external customers. Responsible for the integrity of all front-end business functions that support excellent patient-centered customer service.

- Greeting and welcomes all patients and visitors in a warm professional manner. Adheres to behaviors and conduct that contributes to excellent patient service.
- Demonstrating a culture of safety in daily operations. Works as a patient advocate to help identifies needs of patients e.g., transportation, interpreter, wheelchair assistance.
Obsess Over Excellence
The ER Registration HUC supports continuous improvement and high standards by:
- Ensuring that complete and accurate demographic and financial information has been populated into the electronic medical record by interviewing the patients and collecting and recording all necessary information for registration of a patient.
- Ensuring patient receives necessary Medicare/Medicaid disclosures, MSP verification and privacy information, including, but not limited to, education regarding the Charity policy and the hospital's billing procedures. Obtains all necessary legal and financial signatures.
Lead Innovation
The ER Registration HUC encourages creativity and forward-thinking approaches by:
- Collecting patient payments including payments on account, copays, coinsurance and deductibles as applicable.
Deepen Connections
The ER Registration HUC strengthens relationships with patients, staff, and care team partners by:
- Coordinating patient transfers to other facilities.
- Interacting with patients, families, and physicians and is the liaison among members of the health care team, patients, and families.
Key Responsibilities

- Ensures that complete and accurate demographic and financial information has been populated into the electronic medical record by interviewing the patients and collecting and recording all necessary information for registration of a patient.
- Ensures patient receives necessary Medicare/Medicaid disclosures, MSP verification and privacy information, including, but not limited to, education regarding the Charity policy and the hospital's billing procedures. Obtains all necessary legal and financial signatures.
- Demonstrates a culture of safety in daily operations. Works as a patient advocate to help identifies needs of patients e.g., transportation, interpreter, wheelchair assistance.
- Collects patient payments including payments on account, copays, coinsurance and deductibles as applicable.
- Verifies health insurance eligibility.
- Responsible for calling overhead code pages and drills.
- Coordinates patient transfers to other facilities.
- Interact with patients, families, and physicians and is the liaison among members of the health care team, patients, and families.
- Requests patient medical records at the request of staff.
- Answers hospital main telephone line and redirects call to appropriate department.
- General copying duties and other duplicating needs as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred Certification:
- AA degree. One year professional experience in medical field. Basic knowledge of medical procedures and medical terminology. Current CPR certificate. CNA preferred. Ability to accurately type a minimum of 35 wpm
Required Experience:
- High school diploma/GED or previous experience as a health unit coordinator, patient registration or financial counseling.
Skills:
- Good working knowledge of English, grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.
- Ability to work with constant interruptions
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Calm and professional disposition
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Dedication to maintaining confidentiality of all patient records.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Good working conditions. Clean, well-lighted, air conditioned or heated area
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to work effectively with visitors, patients, and staff. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Sit for long periods at a time, bend, walks, or stoop intermittently. Lift up to 15 lbs. Must be able to work on several projects simultaneously and handle frequent interruptions.

Benefit Eligibility Requirements – Employees regularly scheduled at least 20 hours per week.
Employee Dependents – Your legal spouse or domestic partner; dependent children until age 26.
Waiting Period – 1st of the month from the date of hire.
