The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

Responsibilities include program coordination, workflow development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and standardization of outpatient Child Life practices.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor s degree or equivalent in child life, psychology, child development, education or related field
  • Child Life Certification required
  • 5 years experience as a Child Life Specialist required
  • Child Life Internship required

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree preferred

Scheduling Requirements

  • Full Time
  • 35 hours per week
  • Day Shift

Essential Functions:

  • Provide child life interventions for selected units including: - Psychosocial assessment of patients, including their developmental status, social interaction, coping style and family structure to facilitate an atraumatic adjustment to hospitalization, illness and injury

- Group and individual, art and recreational activities for patients in select units

- Preoperative teaching for patients and family members as needed

- Collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to develop treatment plans for patients, programming needs and special events

  • Demonstrates a commitment to partnering with our patients and their family members in the development and improvement of programs, policies and processes that shape patient, family and staff experiences across the organization by implementing the core principles of patient and family centered care and incorporating into daily practice

  • Develops new programs for a specified unit/program within the Children s Hospital which supports the mission and enhances Child Life Programming
  • Seeks opportunities within department and throughout hospital to develop initiatives to enhance the care provided to patients and families

  • Organizes and maintains special programs, holiday celebrations and donor sponsored special events
  • Assists in the scheduling, and supervising of such events
  • Assists in correspondence with visitors/ contributors
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principle of growth and development
  • Assesses data reflective of the patient s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs
  • Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit, i.e., infant, pediatric and adolescent
  • Provide the care as described in the department s policies and procedures

  • Professional Practice and Development Remains current in the field of Child Life by attending conferences and lectures
  • Maintain membership and participates in professional organizations
  • Pursues opportunities for professional presentations
  • Demonstrates interactions with staff members that are evident of team building
  • Staff Supervision and Development: - Assists Director with staff development and supervision of child life staff, students and volunteers
  • Serves as a resource for child life staff on clinical child life issues,
  • Assists child life staff in providing interventions as needed
  • - Provides staff development programs to staff and students on various child life issues
  • Oversees management and organization of all activity centers and storage areas for department
  • Maintains safe and therapeutic environment
  • Documents child life programming as assigned, including patient needs, project initiatives, and unit based reports
  • Professional Practice: Remains current with best practices, newest theories, research and trends related to family centered care and participates in related professional forums and organizations
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principle of growth and development
  • Assesses data reflective of the patient s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs
  • Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit, i.e., infant, pediatric and adolescent
  • Provide the care as described in the department s policies and procedures

  • Overall Prograp to establish and implement goals and objectives of patient and family centered care throughout the organization,
  • Collaborate with the full interdisciplinary team (includes patients and families) and all other areas of the organization to ensure the development and implementation of best Patient and Family Centered Care practices at the NBIMC
  • Create a team environment that fosters open communication and collaboration that supports the program
  • Communicates with the Director, Child Life Program, regarding administrative needs of the program, plans, activities and new ideas
