Purpose

Primarily responsible for operating and performing imaging procedures using various types of diagnostic equipment, such as CT scanners, MRI machines, ultrasound devices, and X-ray machines, depending on their specific certifications, to generate accurate images for diagnosis by physicians; this includes patient positioning, administering contrast agents when necessary, and adhering to strict safety protocols across different imaging modalities.

Essential Job Functions

  • A radiographic technologist with two certifications, such as in Radiography (R), Computed Tomography (CT), and Mammography (M), would primarily be responsible for performing a variety of diagnostic imaging procedures using X-ray, CT, and mammography equipment, including patient preparation, positioning, image acquisition, quality control, and ensuring radiation safety, while adapting their skills to the specific needs of each modality based on their certifications; this could include advanced imaging techniques for complex anatomical structures or diagnostic needs depending on their expertise.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform Radiographic Examinations:
  • Conduct imaging procedures in two specified modalities (e.g., X-ray, CT scans, MRI, Mammography, etc.).
  • Ensure images are of high quality for accurate diagnosis and review.
  • Multi-modality technologists are responsible for obtaining accurate images, maintaining patient records, adhering to safety protocols and collaborating with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment. planning.
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Competencies Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Operate and maintain radiographic imaging equipment, ensuring proper functionality and safety. Troubleshoot and report equipment malfunctions promptly to the appropriate departments for resolution. Perform regular quality assurance tests on equipment to meet regulatory standards. Collaboration with Medical Team: Work closely with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to interpret imaging orders and ensure the correct imaging modality is used. Assist in reviewing images with radiologists and address any follow-up exams if needed. Provide detailed reports and maintain accurate records of patient imaging data. Safety & Compliance: Adhere to radiation safety standards, ensuring proper use of lead shielding, dosimeters, and other protective equipment. Maintain knowledge of and compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, radiation protection standards, etc.). Follow infection control protocols, including sanitizing equipment and maintaining a clean, safe work environment. Continuing Education & Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with technological advancements and best practices in radiography and imaging modalities. Attend ongoing training and certification programs in both disciplines to maintain licensure and professional competency. Supervisory Responsibility No Supervision. The job does not require the provision of guidance or supervision to others. There is no formal responsibility for directing others. Materials Responsibility Limited: Work requires limited responsibility for material resources. Examples for resources could include supplies, equipment, inventories, small budgets, and other similar material assets. The employee has a limited amount of control over these resources. The cost of errors is also limited in terms of damage, waste of financial loss. Problems associated with material resources are not complex. The volume of resources may vary, but the level of difficulty in dealing with these resources is uncomplicated. Key Relationships Co-workers/JCRHC Employees, Physicians/ Medical Office Staff, Students/Interns/Residents/ Outside Instructors, Patients, Families, and Significant Others Position Specifications Education ARRT Certification Certification in one of the following: Bone Densitometry, CT, Mammography, MRI, or US. Iowa Licensure BLS Certification Field of Study Radiographic Technology One of the following modalities: Bone Densitometry, CT, Mammography, MRI, or US. Special Training N/A Training Preferred N/A Licensure / Registration ARRT State Licensure Experience Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working as a Radiologic Technologist with proficiency in two imaging disciplines. Experience in a healthcare setting, preferably a hospital or imaging center, is preferred. Interpersonal Skills Strong technical and mechanical aptitude for operating complex imaging equipment. Excellent patient care and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in image capture and documentation. Knowledge of radiation safety protocols and patient confidentiality guidelines. Working Conditions: Location: The role will be performed in a clinical or hospital environment, requiring occasional movement between different imaging departments for dual modality exams.Shifts: The technologist may be required to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, or on-call, depending on the facility's needs. Possible Exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens includes any situation where an employee could come into contact with blood or other potentially infectious bodily fluids through needlesticks, cuts, splashes to the eyes, nose, or mouth, or contact with broken skin, which can occur in a healthcare setting.
