JOB TITLE: Maintenance Manager

LOCATION: MRF Tajiguas Landfill

FLSA EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

REPORTS TO: General Manager

DIRECT REPORTS: Maintenance Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY: The Maintenance Manager is a key member of the MRF support team and is responsible for executing the strategic objectives of equipment maintenance and directing maintenance to ensure optimal and efficient performance of the shop. Will lead the maintenance team’s efforts, applying techniques in best maintenance practices to maximize equipment reliability and resource availability, through recognized improvement and sustainability programs that include planning and managing the maintenance activities i.e. purchase, repair and equipment; coordinates equipment maintenance, service and repair needs; manages regulatory compliance requirements; trains, develops and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel. An ideal candidate would be self-motivated, technically inclined, strong operational background, embrace change and remain calm in a changing and fast-paced environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

Oversee the planning and scheduling of all repair work to increase productivity and monitor the shop’s operational performance and efficiency by taking the necessary action to redirect activities as appropriate.Leads technical competence of maintenance personnel and developing a plan that supports safety, people engagement and developing their skillset, quality, cost, reliability of equipment and continuous improvement initiatives.Establishes and maintains the highest level of excellence in communication with colleagues throughout the company.Leading facility upgrades, capital improvements, capital replacements, and continuous improvement initiativesEstablishes maintenance KPIs, operational metrics, and financial performance and presents results to senior leadership.Controlling maintenance budgets while maintaining safety and reliability.Monthly updates to all reports and maintenance manuals to meet county requirements.Develop processes and procedures to coordinate work performed by outside vendors.Build troubleshooting & preventative maintenance guides.Ensures equipment is operational, serviced, and ready to meet daily MRF requirements.
Provides mechanical expertise to the team for troubleshooting, maintaining and modification/additions.Provides direction and input into refining the preventative maintenance, and spare parts stocking. Monitors/Controls inventory to complete repairs promptly without delays and ensures proper parts management and organization. Weekly inventory checks.Oversees the data in Maintenance Software System to control costs, prioritize work orders, categorize repairs to enhance productivity. Constant review of pending repairs.Manages maintenance dashboard and utilize the system to its fullest by actively reducing rework, increasing warranty recapture dollars, and support equipment life cycle. Run reports, prepare data for presentation in graphic and summary form.Keeps a vigil eye for opportunities related to financial & operational efficiencies.In tune with mechanics & parts techs skillsets and allocate work accordingly according to skillset. Identify unfavorable maintenance trends as they occur. Initiates corrective actions, utilizes benchmarking and revises procedures to improve effectiveness and eliminate deficiencies.Support a culture of safety, regulatory and corporate compliance and training; ensure the regular review of safety policies and SOPs with maintenance personnel.Perform work in a safe manner to protect oneself, team, and the public from injury or harm.Promote safety awareness, identify potential safety hazards in the shop and follow safety procedures and policies. Be an active contributor in safety meetings. Responsible for all lock-out, tag-out procedures, compliance and performance.Take a proactive approach with events (i.e., weather ensure that if rain is in the forecast ensure pumps and pits are maintained and ready to handle storm water).Offer conflict resolution and problem solving in coordination with Maintenance Supervisor in support of employees.Ensure complex schedules and rotation structures are completed so that operations run smoothly. Recommend salary increases, promotions, disciplinary action as needed and coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor, General Manager and HR.Facilitate and direct training for new and experienced mechanics to ensure safe tool use. Keep MSDS sheets up to date.Work with management to review plans for the purchase of new equipment, ensuring current and future safety or performance requirements and best practices.Assure that all safety inspections are current.Maintain knowledge of current industry best practices and changes in regulations and communicate these effectively and lead the implementation of new or altered standards.Collaborate with Operations Manager and Maintenance Supervisor in root cause analysis investigation for consistent issues, develop preventative best practices, process improvements and widely communicating findings to help reduce reoccurring issues/damage.Makes promotion, hiring, termination decisions.Review, update, and modify preventive maintenance programs to fit current maintenance trends and analyze maintenance department performance data to implement methods of increasing efficiency and reducing costs.Supervise Maintenance Supervisor and provide mentoring and guidance on conducting performance evaluations, career progression, communication, equipment training.Utilize comprehensive documentation process to track employee progress and disciplinary actions.Establish & maintain equipment standards including reduced carbon footprint, wastewater, etc.Inspect work by employees and contractors (walk around/be visible) in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with standards and specifications; advise of work in progress, operating problems and actual or potential delays.Produce monthly inventory reports for accounting. Systematically identify all parts on hand. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop a cohesive team, providing coaching and development on a regular basis. Manages maintenance supervisor. Provides guidance to Maintenance Supervisor on technician staff schedules, workload, and performance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
Principles, methods and practices pertaining to the operation of an equipment maintenance and repair facility.Waste industry experience a plus.Working knowledge of automotive, heavy equipment, heavy duty trucks, small engine portable equipment and tools and equipment involved with their repair; engines, transmissions, drive train, lubrication systems, hydraulic systems, pumps, motors, electrical systems, brake systems, emission systems, computerized diagnostic systems, tires, welding, fabrication, operation of welding fabricating tools and equipment. Ability to use needed software to diagnose, repair, and replace electrical components. I.E. PLC’s, Starter breakers, relays, etc.Advanced Troubleshooting skills.Experience developing and managing departmental budgets and analyzing maintenance costs is required.Ability to set and pursue aggressive goals, demonstrating a strong commitment to organizational success and driving resources to accomplish goals and objectives. Ability to develop, implement and carry out preventive maintenance programs. Ability to estimate time, labor, and materials cost for maintenance and repair projects. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline is highly desired. Experience can be substituted for education with a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in maintenance management, and repair of equipment.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Position requires excellent verbal and writes English communication skills including ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Spanish communication skills a plus.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


CERTIFICATIONS: Management, Maintenance Technology a plus.
