Position Summary:
The Department of Art + Design at Arkansas State University invites applications for a full-time, Instructor of Sculpture to begin August 2026. The Department seeks an energetic colleague prepared to teach an innovative curriculum in the new Windgate 3D-Building. The ideal candidate has expertise in both contemporary and traditional sculpture, experience with both metal and wood, and is interested in teaching undergraduate students at all levels.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Ability to teach wood and metal fabrication
• Ability to teach both traditional techniques and interdisciplinary approaches
• Knowledge of the history, theory, and contemporary practice of sculpture
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed

About Us:
The Department of Art + Design, belongs to the College of Liberal Arts and Communications, and offers degrees in Studio Art, Graphic Design, Art Education, Art History, Game Design, and Animation, with around 160 majors currently enrolled. Opened in 2022, the Windgate Center for Three-Dimensional Art is a state of the art facuility housing ceramics and sculpture. Within our building is a full wood shop (with a Sawstop table saw, mitre saws, band saws, spindle sander, dissander, plainer, jointer, and a large assortment of drills, drivers, and pneumatic nailers) an interdisciplinary classroom, metal studio with 6 of Miller welders with individual ventilation, Grizzly downdraft grinding tables, a shear, a sand blasting booth, an Evolution chop saw, Dewalt cordless grinders, and other metal fabrication hand tools), a foundry with an in-ground furnace, brunout kilns, and ½ ton crane, and the Hot Studio (housed off site with an iron coupolet).
Located in Jonesboro, Arkansas, 70 miles northwest of Memphis, Tennessee, Arkansas State University is one of Arkansas' two largest residential universities and is the flagship campus for the Arkansas State system. Our programs are accredited by NASAD, and the unviserity is a Carnegie Tier 2 research institution.
Minimum Qualifications:
An earned MFA in Studio Art, emphasis in Sculpture (or equivalent 3D medium)
• Experience teaching at the college/university level (preferably beyond GA/TA)
• Experience with management, safety, and maintenance of lab facilities
• Ability to teach wood and metal fabrication
Preferred Qualifications:
• Two (2) years full-time teaching experience at the college level (beyond GA/TA)
• Ability to teach metal casting (foundry)
• Ability to teach mold-making processes (die casting, waste mold, injection moldetc)
• Willingness to work collaboratively across disciplines in the department and beyond
• Willingness to maintain an up-to-date innovative curriculum
• Experience with digital 3D processes (CNC, plasma cutter, etc.)
