About the Role

The Campus Sustainability Food Waste Assistant supports the University’s sustainability initiatives by collecting food waste from Argiro Dining Hall and transporting it to the designated composting area. This position helps ensure the efficient handling of food waste while maintaining cleanliness, safety, and environmental stewardship on campus.

Minimum Qualifications

• Dependable and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Available to work approximately two hours per day, seven days per week.

• Able to lift, carry, and transport food waste containers safely.

• Able to follow established sanitation, safety, and operational procedures.

• Demonstrates punctuality and reliability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in sustainability, recycling, composting, food service, custodial work, landscaping, or a related field.

• Interest in environmental sustainability and waste reduction initiatives.

• Experience working independently and managing routine tasks.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect food waste from Argiro Dining Hall on a daily basis.

• Transport food waste to the designated composting area.

• Empty, clean, and replace collection containers as needed.

• Maintain cleanliness of collection and composting areas.

• Follow all applicable sanitation and safety procedures.

• Monitor collection equipment and report maintenance concerns or operational issues to the supervisor.

• Support campus sustainability efforts through proper handling and disposal of food waste.
