The Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing fire alarm and fire sprinkler system projects from contract award through final closeout. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements. The Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for customers, internal teams, and subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Manage all phases of fire alarm or fire sprinkler projects, including scheduling, execution, inspections, and closeout
- Review contracts, drawings, specifications, and change orders to ensure scope clarity and compliance
- Perform basic mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, as required for job costing, measurements, and material quantities.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and cost forecasts
- Coordinate with design teams, field supervisors, technicians, inspectors, and subcontractors
- Ensure compliance with local and state fire codes and company safety policies
- Submit and track permits, shop drawings, submittals, and inspection documentation
- Manage procurement of materials and equipment to meet project timelines
- Conduct job site visits to monitor progress, quality, and safety
- Identify and resolve project issues, including scope changes, delays, or cost impacts
- Communicate regularly with customers regarding project status, milestones, and expectations
- Review and approve invoices and project expenses as required
- Prepare project closeout documents, including as-builts, warranties, and training materials
- Support a culture of safety by promoting safe work practices and addressing safety concerns professionally
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 3–5 years of project management experience in fire alarm and/or fire sprinkler systems
- Experience working with fire marshals and inspectors
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Proficiency with project management and scheduling software
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Licenses and Certifications
- NICET certification (Level II or higher preferred)
- Fire Alarm or Sprinkler licensing (state or local, as applicable)
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Knowledge of construction accounting and job cost reporting
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds
- Combination of office and field work
- Ability to travel to job sites as needed
- Ability to climb ladders, access mechanical rooms, and work in active construction environments
