Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Field Service Engineer II (Remote) to deliver expert-level technical support across the full KONGSBERG Defense portfolio. In this role, you’ll step into a leadership position—diagnosing and resolving complex system challenges, guiding customers through hands-on training, and supporting the deployment of advanced KONGSBERG products and services around the world. You’ll work in close partnership with our Lead Field Service Engineer to anticipate evolving customer needs, strengthen long-term relationships, and ensure seamless support throughout every phase of the program lifecycle. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a Field Support Engineer (FSE) for the entire KONGSBERG Defense portfolio, offering expert-level support, troubleshooting, and guidance to customers, ensuring the effective operation and deployment of products and services.
- The Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the functional, operational, and employment aspects of the KDA family of remote weapons, turrets, and missile systems, providing technical expertise and guidance across all related activities.
- Take an active role in supporting the day-to-day operations of field service, managing and resolving more complex customer issues and ensuring efficient execution of service tasks.
- Deliver advanced training to internal teams and external DoD personnel, tailoring content to specific needs and ensuring comprehensive understanding of complex systems and procedures.
- As required, operate, maintain and demonstrate all platform assets for customer demonstrations and qualification.
- Support, as required, for USG customers at various military installations for extended periods of time under the requirements of the supported program.
- Support, as required, trade shows and live fire demonstrations as an FSE for the entire KONGSBERG portfolio.
- Lead system demonstrations and marketing support, ensuring comprehensive presentations and active participation in promotional efforts. Take full responsibility for equipment and weapons accountability, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all standards.
- Able to maintain and support weapons, transport and the ability to conduct live fire and demonstrations.
- Able to obtain and maintain up to a Secret Security Clearance.
ANY ADDITIONAL, PERIODIC OR OCCASIONAL DUTIES:
Support, as available, with testing or production activities in Johnstown.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma/general education degree (GED) required / associate's degree in management, computers, electronics or a related mechanical discipline is preferred / considered.
NUMBER OF YEARS AND TYPE OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- At least 5 years of prior operational, training, technical support for weapon systems and vehicle platforms.
- At least 3 years military or USG experience is preferred.
- Train the Trainer or Instructor certification on military equipment is preferred.
- Field support service experience and / or formal training in a related field.
- Experience as a system technician conducting troubleshooting / in-depth analyses / solutions to engineering problems.
- Experience in a mechanical and/or electrical discipline is preferred.
- Working knowledge of routine equipment preventive maintenance with the ability to independently perform and troubleshoot maintenance task preferred.
- Proficient in the use of basic computer skills – Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrates advanced analytical skills, independently identifying complex problems and developing effective solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, managerial and teamwork skills.
- Able to work autonomously without direct supervision.
MINIMUM LEARNING TIME FOR THIS POSITION PROVIDED EMPLOYEE HAS NECESSARY EXPERIENCE:
- 6-8 months. In addition, candidate position is expected to be supported by (afforded) formal RWS, Medium Caliber, and Missiles training. Training scheduling / availability will impact this timeline.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB:
- Rigorous outside activity is to be expected; requires ability to walk, climb, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at waist, must be able to climb a minimum 30 foot ladder, maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs. Average lift less than 20 lbs., exposed to seasonal weather based on geographic region, exposed to moving parts, electricity and weapons that require safety protocols, exposure to varied travel conditions either driving or flying. The travel required (time on travel) for this position is up to 80%. Travel will be CONUS and OCONUS in potential austere environments. Must be able to successfully complete and pass an annual pre-deployment physical examination.
