Pharmacist in Tempe, Arizona at Patient Care Infusion LLC
Job Description
Tempe, AZ | Full-Time | Monday–Friday | $125K–$160K/yr DOE
Patient Care Infusion (PCI) is a locally owned home infusion and specialty pharmacy and sister company to Arizona Home Care, which has served Valley patients for over 30 years. Together, our pharmacists, nurses, and therapists work as one care team: our nurses and therapists care for patients in their homes, while our 24/7 pharmacy prepares and delivers the IV antibiotics, TPN, chemotherapy agents, and specialty medications those patients depend on.
Our pharmacists play a critical role in delivering safe, high-quality medication therapy to patients receiving home infusion and related pharmacy services. Working at the intersection of clinical expertise and compassionate patient care, you’ll make sure medications are prepared, verified, and dispensed accurately and in full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accrediting body standards.
As a key clinical resource, you’ll partner with physicians, nurses, and an interdisciplinary care team to optimize drug therapy, promote patient safety, and support meaningful outcomes for patients in their homes. You’ll join an established pharmacy team of clinical, front-end, and back-end pharmacists. If you bring strong clinical judgment, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to service excellence, we’d like to hear from you.
About the role:
We’re looking for an experienced pharmacist who is comfortable verifying and signing off on orders, directing pharmacy technicians, and keeping a busy workflow accurate and on time. Experience in home infusion, specialty pharmacy, a hospital IV room, or sterile compounding is ideal. Pharmacists from other settings, and recently licensed pharmacists, are welcome to apply.
Pay & Benefits:
- Salary: $125,000–$160,000/yr
- Medical, dental, vision & life insurance
- Up to 120 hours of PTO
- 6 paid holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas)
- On call pay adjustment on top of your salary
- Pet insurance
- 401(k)
- Free CEUs to support your professional growth
Schedule:
- Full-time, Monday–Friday, 10:30am–7:00pm
- After-hours phone on call rotation is part of the role (we’re a 24/7 pharmacy): you take and follow up on incoming calls, responding by phone within 30 minutes. On call begins after you’re fully trained and is paid on top of your salary.
- Holiday coverage rotates among the team, so you won’t work every holiday.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the receipt, storage, preparation, labeling, and dispensing of medications, and make sure they’re accurate and ready for patient delivery on time
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and compounding personnel, and conduct final verification of all compounded medications before dispensing
- Oversee and delegate work across our technician teams: front-end technicians who process orders and contact patients, back-end technicians who handle production, labeling, and inventory, and compounding technicians
- Ensure the accuracy, sterility, and safety of compounded products
- Review medication orders for clinical appropriateness, accuracy, and patient safety, evaluating drug interactions, duplications, contraindications, and dosing
- Monitor patient drug therapy for effectiveness and adverse reactions, interpret lab and clinical data to identify risks, and contribute to individualized pharmacy care plans
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, intake staff, and patients to coordinate care, and provide clinical consultation on medication therapy
- Educate patients, caregivers, and clinical staff on medication use, safe administration, and potential risks
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in line with regulatory and accreditation standards
- Help keep us compliant with USP 797/800, HIPAA, OSHA, the Arizona Board of Pharmacy, and accreditation standards, and support audit readiness
- Champion patient safety, including medication error reduction, and take part in our quality improvement (QAPI) work
- Support the training and onboarding of pharmacy staff and students, and assist with referral coordination and medication setup for new patient admissions
Required:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or B.S. in Pharmacy
- Active, unrestricted Arizona pharmacist license
- Strong attention to detail and comfort with pharmaceutical calculations
- Clear communication and a patient-centered approach
- Willingness to learn sterile compounding and infusion therapy
- Ability to take part in after-hours phone on-call (30-minute response) and holiday coverage once trained
Preferred:
- Pharmacist experience, ideally in home infusion, specialty pharmacy, a hospital IV room, or sterile compounding
- Familiarity with USP 797 and 800; BCSCP certification
- Experience with IV antibiotics, TPN, chemotherapy, or specialty biologics
- Experience working with technicians or in a home health or interdisciplinary setting
