Position: Per-Diem ASC Nurse Peri and Intra Operative (OR Circulator) Registered Nurse

Reports to: ASC Nurse Manager

Salary Range:

$38.00 an hour and Up Depending on Experience

The Opportunity:

Seeking a Registered Nurse with basic knowledge of perioperative and intra-operative patient care. Coordinates and initiates patient care within the Ambulatory Surgery Center. Acts as a patient advocate during the perioperative and intra operative process to promote safety and the highest quality of care. Provides direction for other members of the surgical team in both the non-sterile and sterile setting. Provides direct patient care and educates patients and family members as needed.

Overview of Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA.
  • Perform patient assessment pre-operatively including Vital Signs.
  • Administer eye medications aseptically and as ordered
  • Coordinate personnel within the operating suite verifying that the surgeon, anesthesia provider, and other team members are present.
  • Check chart prior to procedure to verify that proper documentation is on the chart and that abnormal diagnostic studies are addressed prior to the transfer of patient to the OR.
  • Open sterile instrument packs, drapes, solutions, and supplies while maintaining aseptic technique during transfer onto the sterile field.
  • Properly connect sterile devices and equipment from sterile field to non-sterile sources (suction, Bovie, camera, light, etc.).
  • Help prepare the Operating suites and readies equipment for procedures, including housekeeping needs, instruments, and equipment when needed.
  • Properly care for tissue specimens, including packaging.
  • Apply sterile dressings utilizing aeseptic technique at the end of procedure without
  • Prepare specimens to be sent to the lab (enter in logbook, verify proper packaging)
  • Assist the anesthetist Post-operatively during an emergency situation.
  • Accompany the patient and anesthetist to the Post op and give appropriate report to the receiving nurse.
  • Assist staff in the cleaning and preparation of the operating room for subsequent procedures.
  • Monitoring patients' vital signs, levels of consciousness, and reactions to anesthesia and medications post operatively

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of RN program, BSN preferred
  • Active unencumbered Maine license
  • Previous Ambulatory Surgery or Operating Room Pre and Post Op experience preferred
  • BLS required
  • ACLS preferred
  • Experience working in an ambulatory surgery setting (preferred)
  • Experience with electronic medical records
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with members of the EMG practice
  • Ability to exercise judgment, initiative, and possess problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent command of the English language, both spoken and in writing.
  • Ability to complete work in a timely manner, accurate, and thorough manner.
  • Commitment to the highest standard of professional conduct
