Role SummaryThe Survey Technician supports the Engineering & Technical Services team by performing fieldwork and completing related documentation needed for surveys, topographic mapping, construction staking, as-built surveys, and other survey-related assignments under the direction of the Survey Party Chief. This role provides hands-on learning opportunities using modern surveying equipment, technology, and field techniques.
Key Responsibilities & Outcomes1. Surveying & Technical SupportOutcome: Surveying services are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with professional standards.
- Provide surveying support for projects serving all business units.
- Assist the land surveying team with research, equipment maintenance, PPE readiness, and related support tasks.
- Help keep the survey crew organized, prepared, and focused on the work plan.
Outcome: Positive working relationships are maintained with internal clients and external property owners.
- Support internal clients in meeting business objectives by providing timely and reliable surveying assistance.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with adjoining landowners.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
Outcome: The Survey Technician actively contributes to the survey team by learning from experienced staff and developing technical knowledge.
- Take an active role in learning and becoming proficient with the survey equipment used daily.
- Assist with research and develop an understanding of legal descriptions and the Public Land Survey System.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn from others while building technical skills.
Outcome: High standards are maintained in surveying, quality, safety, continuous improvement, learning, and team culture.
- Participate in and contribute to safety meetings and on-site safety briefings.

- High School Diploma required
- 0–2 years of relevant experience
- Strong ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Organized, detail-oriented, and focused
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills
- Physical ability to work outdoors in varying conditions
- Create: Field book data, point collection, and set property corners
- Execute: Surveying data collection, research, and teamwork
- Stakeholder-Customers: Business units, adjoining property owners, contractors
Each day begins with preparing the survey truck with the necessary tools and equipment, reviewing the work plan, and ensuring all required PPE is in proper working condition. From there, you'll head into the field to support survey operations, collaborate with your crew, and contribute to accurate, high-quality project outcomes.
