This is a senior leadership role focused on shaping and advancing global and US patient advocacy strategy within a mission-driven biotechnology environment dedicated to rare diseases. You will play a critical role in embedding patient and caregiver perspectives across the full medicines lifecycle, ensuring that real-world experiences directly influence strategy, development, and access initiatives. Acting as a trusted partner to internal functions and external advocacy organizations, you will help build meaningful, compliant, and impactful relationships that strengthen trust and accelerate patient-centered innovation. The role requires a blend of strategic vision and hands-on leadership, with responsibility for guiding enterprise engagement efforts and overseeing advocacy operations and investment. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including regulatory, government affairs, and communications to expand access and improve outcomes. This position offers the opportunity to shape how a global organization engages with patient communities in rare disease care.
- Develop and execute global and US patient advocacy and engagement strategies across disease areas and enterprise initiatives.
- Build and maintain authentic, trust-based relationships with patients, caregivers, and advocacy organizations.
- Embed patient and caregiver insights into business, clinical, and commercialization strategies across the product lifecycle.
- Partner with cross-functional teams including regulatory, government affairs, and communications to support compliant stakeholder engagement and access discussions.
- Translate patient community insights into actionable strategies that influence development, access, and reimbursement pathways.
- Lead and evolve patient advocacy programs, ensuring strong representation of patient voices in internal and external decision-making.
- Oversee patient advocacy operations, including budget management and external partner engagement.
- Provide leadership within the advocacy function and contribute to enterprise-wide patient-focused initiatives.
- Ensure effective communication of complex scientific and medical information to patient and caregiver communities in accessible formats.
- 10+ years of experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
- 10+ years of experience in patient advocacy, with rare disease experience strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Proven experience engaging with patients, caregivers, and advocacy organizations across the medicines lifecycle.
- Strong ability to translate complex scientific and medical concepts into clear, patient-friendly communication.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking with strong operational execution and planning capabilities.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills for both internal and external audiences.
- Deep understanding of regulatory, compliance, and legal frameworks related to patient engagement.
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders in a matrixed environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%.
- Competitive annual salary range of $247,200 to $305,300, depending on experience and qualifications.
