Job Description

Principal Platform & Release Governance Engineer

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Principal Platform & Release Governance Engineer in United States.

This is a high-impact engineering leadership role focused on transforming enterprise release governance into a fully automated, scalable, and risk-aware platform. You will define what “release readiness” means and embed it directly into CI/CD systems, replacing manual approval processes with policy-driven automation. The role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, DevOps, security, and operational excellence, ensuring software can be delivered safely and at high velocity. You will architect next-generation release governance models, including a modernized CAB 2.0 framework that enables self-service deployments based on objective readiness signals. Working across engineering, security, and cloud operations, you will drive standardization of pipelines and deployment practices across dozens of systems. This is a strategic and hands-on role where your work directly improves reliability, developer productivity, and deployment safety at scale.

Accountabilities
  • Define and implement enterprise release governance standards, including a modern CAB 2.0 model based on automated, risk-based controls.
  • Design and scale standardized CI/CD pipelines embedding security, compliance, testing, and deployment safety mechanisms such as canary releases and automated rollback.
  • Replace manual approval workflows with policy-as-code automation integrated directly into delivery pipelines.
  • Establish measurable readiness thresholds enabling teams to self-approve releases when compliance criteria are met.
  • Oversee transitional CAB and release processes while systematically eliminating manual governance steps.
  • Develop a long-term roadmap to migrate legacy release processes into fully automated systems across engineering teams.
  • Analyze release incidents and operational metrics to identify systemic issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Drive adoption of standardized pipelines and governance models across multiple engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Partner with leadership to align release governance with organizational risk tolerance and operational resilience goals.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, CI/CD systems, or enterprise release engineering.
  • Proven track record of replacing manual governance or approval-based processes with automated, policy-driven systems.
  • Strong expertise in CI/CD tooling, secure software delivery, and scalable deployment architectures.
  • Deep knowledge of policy-as-code, automated compliance, and secure-by-default engineering practices.
  • Experience implementing release safety mechanisms such as progressive delivery, canary deployments, and automated rollback.
  • Strong systems-thinking mindset with the ability to balance velocity, reliability, and security at scale.
  • Experience influencing engineering standards across multiple teams or large organizations.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to drive cross-functional alignment.
  • Familiarity with modern platform tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Kubernetes, and observability stacks is a plus.
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation package aligned with senior engineering leadership roles.
  • Remote-friendly work environment with flexibility depending on role requirements.
  • Opportunity to lead enterprise-wide transformation of release governance and platform engineering practices.
  • High-impact role with visibility across engineering, security, and cloud operations leadership.
  • Strong focus on automation, modern DevOps practices, and engineering enablement.
  • Career growth opportunities within a mission-driven, innovation-focused organization.
  • Collaborative engineering culture emphasizing reliability, speed, and continuous improvement.
