Job Description

Assistant Teacher

  • Position Summary
    • The Children’s House is a 3-Star Quality Rated child care facility associated with St. Joseph’s/Candler. The Children’s House offers programs ranging from infant care to Pre-Kindergarten. Our mission is to promote the healthy growth and development of children and to strengthen and support the families and community.

      The focus of our program is to promote developmentally appropriate learning through respect, diversity, self-esteem and equality in order to prepare our learners for success. We accomplish this vision through cooperation among highly trained co-workers, our children’s families, and the community, in a safe, nurturing environment which provides individualized learning and developmentally appropriate practices.

      We believe that young children learn best through creative, hands-on learning experiences in an environment that fosters curiosity. The Office Assistant provides support to the Director and Teachers helping the children learn to think independently, to problem solve and to use their words to communicate their feelings.

  • Education
    • High School Diploma or GED; and
      • 3 or more years of early care and education experience with young children; or
      • 61 or more clocked hours of state approved/accepted training - Required
    • Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) - Required
    • Technical Certificate of Credit in Early Childhood Education or Child Development; Technical College Diploma (TCD) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development; or Associate in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field - Preferred
  • Experience
    • Experience working with infants, toddlers, or pre-school-aged children - Required
    • 1 Year of experience following health, safety, and licensing guidelines - Required
    • 1 Year of experience demonstrating communication skills - Required
  • License & Certification
    • CPR/First Aid Certification - Required
  • Core Job Functions
    • Provide direct care and active supervision of children at all times while maintaining a safe, healthy environment. Ensure proper response to injuries, emergencies, administering medication as required, and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with state licensing regulations.
    • Assist the lead teacher with daily classroom routines, including transitions, meals, activities and supervision. Help maintain an organized and orderly learning environment.
    • Support implementation of daily lesson plans and activities that promote physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. Encourage child participation and independence.
    • Maintain accurate child records, daily reports, attendance, and required documentation including incident reports and medication logs when applicable.
    • Provide daily communication to families through informal conversations and written updates. Participate in parent conferences as needed.
    • Follow all licensing regulations, Quality-Rated standards, and center policies regarding health, safety, supervision, and sanitation.
    • Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and directors. Attend required meetings, scheduled professional development and trainings while maintaining professional conduct at all times.
