Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Provides efficient and immediate basic life support (BLS) care to the critically ill or injured at the scene of the incident until the patient is transferred to the care of EMS or hospital personnel. Administers basic or advanced emergency medical care and assess injuries and illnesses. May administer medication intravenously, use equipment such as EKGs, or administer advanced life support to sick or injured individuals.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Administers first aid treatment or life support care to sick or injured persons in prehospital settings.
• Assesses the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures.
• Administers drugs, orally or by injection, or perform intravenous procedures.
• Observes, records, and reports to physician the patient's condition or injury, the treatment provided, and reactions to drugs or treatment.
• Operates equipment, such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), external defibrillators, or bag valve mask resuscitators, in advanced life support environments.
• Performs emergency cardiac care, such as cardioversion and manual defibrillation.
• Performs emergency invasive intervention before delivering patient to an acute care facility.
• Performs emergency pharmacological interventions.
• Attends training classes to maintain certification licensure, keep abreast of new developments in the field, or maintain existing knowledge.
• Comforts and reassures patients.
• Communicates with dispatchers or treatment center personnel to provide information about situation, to arrange reception of victims, or to receive instructions for further treatment.
• Coordinates work with other emergency medical team members or police or fire department personnel.
• Decontaminates ambulance interior following treatment of patient with infectious disease, and reports case to proper authorities.
• Drives mobile intensive care unit to specified location, following instructions from emergency medical dispatcher.
• Immobilizes patient for placement on stretcher and ambulance transport, using backboard or other spinal immobilization device.
• Maintains vehicles and medical and communication equipment and replenishes first aid equipment and supplies.
• Performs emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures, such as stomach suction, airway management, or heart monitoring, during ambulance ride.
• Responds to calls for fire, medical, hazmat, rescue and other natural and/or man-made emergencies.
• Carries out commands and tasks necessary to mitigate the emergency safely and efficiently; performs all duties and tasks assigned by supervisors.
• Conducts Community Risk Reduction: customer surveys, recruiting events, blood pressure checks, school events, apparatus displays.
• Cleans and maintains equipment: Cardiac Monitor, Medical Bags and Equipment, and Vehicle.
• Performs station cleaning and maintenance duties.
Additional Duties:
• Performs general administrative/office duties as required, including typing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, answering the telephone, etc.
• Continually stays up to date on all policy, procedure, and/or process changes.
• Completes all work accurately, safely, and efficiently.
• Keeps work area clean and safe.
• Maintains any assigned equipment in safe and good operating condition.
• Reports to Supervisor any suggested improvements or areas of concern.
• Ensures professionalism and exceptional customer service during all interactions while performing job representing the City of Greer.
• Exhibits strong ethical standards; ability to create trust and integrity with co-workers, customers, and community.
• Adheres to Employee Handbook and other relevant policies and procedures.
• Maintains regular and sustained attendance.
• Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.

Requirements:EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE - REQUIRED
· High School diploma or GED.
· Must possess National Registry EMT – Paramedic.
· Current BLS Certification.
· Current ACLS Certification.
· Current PALS Certification.
· Must possess a valid state issued driver's license.
