Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW
US Refuse is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Route Monitor / Route Supervisor to oversee daily residential waste collection operations. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supporting drivers and helpers, monitoring route performance, maintaining service quality, and ensuring routes are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
This position combines field supervision, operational oversight, and route support. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who is willing to step in and operate collection routes when needed, solve problems in real time, and help build a culture of accountability, safety, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
OPERATIONS & ROUTE OVERSIGHT
Monitor daily collection routes and track route progress throughout the day
Ensure routes are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule
Supervise and support drivers and helpers in the field
Assist in managing a fleet of approximately five collection vehicles
Identify opportunities to improve route efficiency, productivity, and service quality
TEAM LEADERSHIP
Provide leadership, coaching, and support to drivers and helpers
Hold employees accountable for attendance, safety, performance, and customer service standards
Assist with employee training and onboarding
Promote a positive, professional, and safety-focused work environment
PROBLEM RESOLUTION
Address route delays, missed stops, customer concerns, equipment issues, and staffing shortages
Communicate effectively with drivers, helpers, office staff, management, and customers
Respond to operational challenges and help implement timely solutions
Report accidents, incidents, safety concerns, and equipment issues to management
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Collect, review, and submit daily route paperwork
Maintain route logs, attendance records, incident reports, and operational documentation
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards
ROUTE COVERAGE
Operate collection routes as needed due to call-outs, staffing shortages, vacations, emergencies, or other business needs
Maintain all required licensing and qualifications necessary to safely operate company vehicles
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Valid CDL Class B or Class A license
Ability and willingness to operate collection routes when required
Previous experience in waste collection, transportation, logistics, fleet operations, or route supervision preferred
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Dependable, organized, and self-motivated
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Basic computer skills, including data entry, reporting, and route documentation
Commitment to safety, accountability, and customer service
WORKING CONDITIONS
Candidates should be prepared for:
Early morning start times
Outdoor work in various weather conditions
Occasional extended workdays when operational needs require
Responding to staffing shortages and service disruptions
Managing customer complaints and operational challenges
Enforcing safety standards and company policies
Working both in the field and in an operational leadership capacity
