Job Description

AquaFire is growing its Fire Protection capability across the Wellington region, and we're looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to help drive that growth.

Aquaheat New Zealand is one of New Zealand's most respected HVAC and mechanical project contractors. Alongside our core business, we operate several specialist divisions including AquaFire (fire protection solutions), Colt (louvre and smoke control systems), and Classic Metal (roofing and cladding solutions).

With over 70 years' experience, we deliver end-to-end solutions across commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects. From heating, cooling, and ventilation to fire protection and roofing, we design, install, and maintain systems that help keep New Zealand running.

About the role:

Based in Wellington, you'll drive growth for AquaFire by identifying new opportunities, expanding existing accounts, and strengthening customer relationships across the region :

  • Market growth: build a strategic pipeline, identify new opportunities and increase market penetration
  • Sales conversion: qualify prospects, pitch solutions and convert opportunities into longterm service agreements
  • Account development: grow existing customer portfolios through product expansion and proactive relationship management
  • Commercial insight: use market knowledge, competitor insights and commercial judgement to shape proposals
  • Collaboration: work closely with the Regional Manager, estimators and project teams to price and deliver solutions
  • Customer engagement: maintain a regular call cycle, complete customer visits and ensure highquality service delivery

About you:

You're a confident business development professional with strong commercial acumen, proven sales ability and a talent for building trusted customer relationships:

  • BDM experience: 57 years B2B business development experience, ideally in fire protection or trade services
  • Sales capability: proven ability to canvas, pitch and convert opportunities into profitable contracts
  • Strategic mindset: able to build targeted pipelines and develop tailored client propositions
  • Commercial acumen: comfortable with financial modelling, pricing and contract negotiation
  • Relationship builder: strong customer rapport, stakeholder engagement and retention skills
  • Organised & proactive: effective planning, time management and CRM discipline
  • Adaptable & resilient: able to manage competing demands and thrive in a fastmoving environment
