Job Description

*Performs and documents routine direct nursing care tasks according to identified age-specific needs.

*Provides care appropriate to condition and age of patient, including pediatric, geriatric, and the general patient population.

*Provides patient care that meets the psychosocial and physical needs of the patient within the CNA's scope of practice.

Assists with patient admissions, discharge, and transfers.

*Assists with patient care that is consistent with standards of care and clinical priorities determined by the nurse with the nature of the area/unit, patient care division policies and procedures, demonstrated competencies, and with consideration given to risk management and infection control practices.

*Performs Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) for assigned patients and documents in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

*Responsible for labeling and securing patient care belongings and ensuring that the patient room is safe and uncluttered.
-
Provides surgical prep of patient with bath/shower then CHG, linen changes and other surgical prep requirements when necessary.

Performs EKGs as ordered.

Applies telemetry to patients under the direction of the nurse.

*Distributes patient’s meals/water and assists with feeding of patients as needed.

Answers patients’ call lights, anticipates patients’ needs and makes rounds of assigned patients.

Assists with ambulation, lifting and positioning according to procedure, including the appropriate use of patient lift devices and use of good body mechanics.

Assists with transporting patients, including at time of transfer and/or dismissal.

*Assists patients with elimination needs and measures/records bodily elimination in medical record.
-
Observes patient and reports complaints of pain or changes in mental and physical conditions to supervising nurse.

Participates in patient care conferences.
-
Documentation meets current standards and policies.
-
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.

*Cleans, stocks and cares for supplies and equipment in assigned work area.
-
For inpatient areas: Provides morning care which may include bed bath, shower, provides foley peri care on patients with a foley Q shift.
-
For inpatient areas: Performs general CNA care and tasks: oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing patients, changing bed linen, cleaning over-bed table and bedside stand, straightening room, and other general care as necessary throughout the shift.

For inpatient areas: Provides evening care which includes hands/face washing as needed, oral hygiene, back rubs, peri-care, freshening linen, cleaning over-bed tables, straightening room, and other general care needed.

For inpatient areas: Performs purposeful hourly rounding.

For inpatient areas: Completes shift report at the bedside.

Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalency required. Active Nebraska Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential required.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
