Compensation: $15.25/hour straight-time (1½ pay for overtime)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Stage Technician I implements the technical requirements of events at the Appalachian Theatre of the High Country (ATHC) to ensure a quality performance from a technical standpoint. This is a lead technician level position open to any persons interested in learning advanced skills in the craft of Technical Theatre. All duties are to be performed in accordance with ATHC policies, practices, and procedures. Work schedule includes regular business hours and weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Specific Job Functions:

• Load and unload of production equipment, musical instruments, scenery, and theatrical accessories from visiting artists and community groups.
• Setup theatrical equipment such as platforms, scaffolding, tables, chairs, and music stands.
• Setup lighting equipment, including the hanging, cabling, addressing, and focusing lighting instruments.
• Setup audio equipment including mic stands, microphones, monitor wedges and backline equipment.
• Follow lighting, video, sound, or other cues for performances.
• Disassemble, store, and load all equipment and materials used in an event.
• Ensure compliance with ATHC safety, health, and sanitation policies.
• Perform supervisory duties as assigned by the Technical Director.
• Train and assist Technician III and Technician II stagehands in learning advanced skills and techniques.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements / Skills:

• Operating and troubleshooting ATHC lighting system and audio system.
• Extensive knowledge of all ATHC technical systems including audio, lighting, video, projection, and rigging equipment.
• Expertise of best practices for health and safety in a theater setting.
• Supervising complex technical set-ups under stress and within pressing deadlines.
• Exercising good judgment, courtesy and tact when interacting with staff and public.
• Presenting a clean and professional appearance, adhering to ATHC standards.
• Adapting to the unique technical and aesthetic needs of individual events.
• Communicating effectively in English, in both written and oral forms.
• Following verbal and written instructions to ensure safety.
• Performing regular strenuous manual labor and safely move heavy items in excess of 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications / Skills

• Three (3) years of theatrical lighting and/or audio experience.
• Proficiency in additional theatrical disciplines including video, projection, rigging, stage management, carpentry, and wardrobe.

Special Conditions:

• Must be able to work varying hours including, daytime, evening, holiday and weekend work, and possibly overtime. Part-Time/Intermittent/on call pool, hours to be assigned by the ATHC.
• Ability and willingness to perform regular strenuous manual labor which requires physical strength, dexterity, and endurance. Load/Unload trucks; transfer equipment and road cases to designated locations. Push/pull/carry/lift and/or shift scenery and equipment around. Work at heights, use personal lift, climb ladders and stairs to reach overhead or remote areas. Load/unload weights occasionally up to 75 lbs.
• Work in potentially adverse conditions, which may include heights, loud noises, large crowds, darkness and/or confined spaces.
