Job Description

Are you looking for a flexible healthcare role that fits your schedule? Okeene Municipal Hospital is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented PRN Laboratory Technician to join our team!
This is an as-needed position designed for maximum flexibility. Our primary needs are for varied shifts during the week—particularly evening and overnight call coverage—with occasional day shift coverage and rotating weekend availability.
At OMH, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, compassionate care close to home. Previous clinical laboratory experience is preferred, but we are fully willing to train the right candidate who brings a strong work ethic, high reliability, and a commitment to quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
As a Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of our patients' health. Your daily duties will include:
  • Specimen Collection: Collect patient blood and fluid specimens via venipuncture, capillary puncture, and arterial collection.
  • Testing & Analysis: Process patient specimens and perform moderate-complexity laboratory testing in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Result Verification: Accurately review, verify, and report laboratory test results to our clinical care teams in a timely manner.
  • Quality Control & Instrument Care: Run daily calibrations, perform routine maintenance, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers.
  • Problem Solving: Recognize abnormal, unexpected, or critical results and follow clinical safety protocols for reporting and investigation.
  • Team Collaboration: Communicate professionally with doctors, nurses, and patients to ensure seamless care coordination.
Candidate Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to meet CLIA personnel requirements for performing moderate-complexity testing.
  • High shift flexibility: Ability to cover varied shifts, with a primary focus on weekdays, evening shifts, and overnight call. Occasional day shifts and weekend rotations are a huge plus.
  • High level of professionalism, reliability, and close attention to detail.
  • Ability to successfully complete hands-on clinical training and competency assessments.
Preferred Qualifications (We Will Train!):
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related field.
  • National certification (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent).
  • Previous experience in a clinical laboratory or performing phlebotomy.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
