Description:

Basic Function: Assist Occupational therapists in providing occupational therapy treatments and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs occupational therapy treatments as designated by the registered Occupational Therapist.
  • Assists the Occupational Therapist during treatments.
  • Conduct client services to individual with appropriate prescription to include:

? Sensorimotor development.

? Gross and fine motor development.

? Visual perception.

? Daily living skills.

? Recreation and play.

? Monitoring/Fabrication of adaptive equipment

? Improving the developmental level of the client.

? Instructing in wheelchair mobility and safety.

? Providing/supervising therapeutic swimming program.

? Follows up with client, parent(s) of client and other professionals working with client.

  • Provides appropriate home program under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist.
  • Monitor progress of interventions.
  • Provide indirect consultative services to client, parent(s) of client and other professionals working with client.
  • Reports client progress to Occupational Therapist.
  • Develops progress notes, IEP’s and discharge summaries with Occupational Therapist.
  • Delivers services to clients at locations operated by Inspire under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist.
  • Responsible for environmental maintenance of equipment and accountable for environs.

Additional Functions:

  • Attends staff meetings and serves as a member of a transdisciplinary team.
  • Participates in off-site meetings, parent groups and public awareness programs as needed.
  • Stay current on physical therapy practices, treatment and evaluation methods.
  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures. Ensures that clients/students/program participants receive services in a safe environment. Encourages co-workers to follow safety policies and procedures. Reports any potential unsafe conditions to supervisor and/or Safety Committee.
  • Follows current policies and procedures regarding compliance with privacy, security and corporate compliance policies. Be thoroughly familiar with department and program specific policies and procedures.
Requirements:

Qualifications: AAS approved and accredited by the AOTA; current NYS OTA license; Sound physical condition to meet physical requirements.

Be professional in appearance, attire, attitude and communication, Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment; or work independently without close supervision, Ability to communicate effectively with others using oral and written methods, Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment when engaged in crisis intervention. Ability to function in a stressful environment under time constraints. Static Strength and Extent Flexibility.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and/or stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch. The employee must frequently lift children and adults. Normal or corrective vision is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Environment: The noise level is usually low to moderate.
