ResponsibilitiesLocation: Richmond, VA
Job Type: Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire
Shifts: 1st & 2nd Shift Available
Starting Pay: $28.00/hour + $3.00/hour shift differential for 2nd shift — higher depending on experience
We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fitter / Layout Technician for a shop-based fabrication position. This role focuses on structural steel layout, fitting, assembly, and quality checks.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications.
- Complete layout, fitting, and assembly of structural steel components.
- Measure, mark, align, and position steel according to job requirements.
- Set up and operate fabrication equipment, including a track torch.
- Check dimensions and ensure components meet required specifications.
- Inspect finished work for quality, accuracy, and compliance.
- Work with supervisors and other team members to meet production schedules.
- Keep the work area safe, clean, organized, and productive.
- Previous experience with structural steel fitting, layout, or fabrication.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Hands-on experience fitting and assembling structural steel components.
- Ability to set up and operate a track torch.
- Working knowledge of welding processes, fabrication equipment, and shop tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Willingness to follow established safety procedures.
- AWS or other welding certifications are a plus.
