Job Overview: At Germfree, you will be recognized as a leading expert in an environment that values grit, integrity, ownership, and innovation—principles that lie at the core of our culture. We are committed to engineering and developing cutting-edge solutions that create a tangible impact in the real world.

As a Senior HVAC Technician on our Service Delivery team, you will be the hands-on mechanical expert responsible for the performance, reliability, and rapid resolution of HVAC systems that keep our clients’ critical environments running. You bring deep, practical knowledge of how HVAC systems operate and are equally comfortable performing mechanical work, diagnosing complex issues, and interpreting system data—whether you gathered it yourself or received it from others in the field. Because our equipment supports high-impact environments such as cleanrooms, laboratories, and hospital pharmacies, your ability to troubleshoot independently, work cleanly, and communicate directly with clients is essential to our mission. Above all, supporting our customers in a timely fashion is critical—our clients depend on rapid, dependable response to keep their operations running, and you will be a primary driver of that responsiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize timely, responsive customer support, treating rapid resolution of client issues as critical to their operations and to Germfree’s reputation.
  • Install, service, maintain, and troubleshoot commercial and critical-environment HVAC systems, including air handling units, chillers, cooling systems, exhaust systems, and associated mechanical components.
  • Perform advanced mechanical diagnostics and repairs, identifying root causes and implementing durable, high-quality solutions.
  • Troubleshoot systems independently using data collected firsthand or provided by other technicians, controls staff, or clients.
  • Work fluently across both the mechanical and controls sides of HVAC systems to diagnose issues that span equipment and building management systems.
  • Serve as a client-facing technical resource on-site, clearly explaining findings, corrective actions, and recommendations to client stakeholders.
  • Ensure all work is performed to specification and in compliance with applicable safety, quality, and regulatory standards for controlled environments.
  • Document service activities, findings, and corrective actions accurately for client and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with Controls Technicians, Service Delivery leadership, and cross-functional teams to deliver a seamless service experience.
  • Respond to service calls that may require on-site assistance, including time-sensitive and after-hours support as needed.
  • Continuously update knowledge of HVAC technology, cleanroom standards, and industry best practices.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive, hands-on experience with commercial and/or critical-environment HVAC systems, with a strong understanding of how these systems operate as a whole.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mechanical work and troubleshoot complex issues independently.
  • Comfort working with HVAC controls and building management systems as part of the diagnostic and troubleshooting process.
  • Strong data-driven troubleshooting skills, with the ability to interpret system readings and performance data to isolate faults.
  • Excellent client-facing communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent Germfree professionally on-site.
  • Comfort working in a high-impact, high-accountability environment where uptime and quality are critical.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, OneDrive).

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/trade school training or an associate degree in HVAC, refrigeration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive, hands-on experience servicing and troubleshooting commercial or critical-environment HVAC systems.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification preferred; a Universal refrigerant certification would be ideal.
  • Experience supporting cleanroom, laboratory, pharmacy, or other regulated environments is highly desirable.
  • OSHA 10 or 30
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record, with the ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screening.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, and occasionally more with assistance.
  • Able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, and reach for extended periods, and to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Able to work in mechanical rooms, on rooftops, and occasionally in confined or elevated spaces.
  • Able to work in varying environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings.
  • Able to gown and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) for cleanroom, laboratory, and pharmacy environments.
  • Able to travel frequently, including driving and occasional overnight stays.
