Education Specialist (ES) - Assessment in Nuuanu, Hawaii at Partners In Development

Primary Purpose Collaborate with teaching team to support the developmental needs and progress of keiki and caregivers by conducting regular assessments, screenings, and providing resources that promote optimal early learning experiences for a Family Child Interaction Learning (FCIL) program.

Essential Duties

● Model, teach and engage with enrolled families in a professional manner that encourages caregivers to be their keiki’s first and foremost teacher;

● Collaborate with the team to set up and break down site, co-teach lessons, and prepare materials;

● Administer, monitor, document, and report on assessment instruments used for caregivers and keiki at the program;

● Observe, document, and consistently track the development and growth of keiki in a timely manner;

● Work closely with the teaching team to ensure monthly lesson plans align with the developmental needs of keiki enrolled at sites;

● Identify participants with special needs and work closely with the families to recommend appropriate community services/agencies;

● Develop daily work routines that support productive and positive team dynamics;

● Participate in regular briefings to discuss program updates, challenges, and propose solutions;

● Operate assigned company vehicles safely and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Other Duties Other duties as assigned include, but are not limited to, completing all forms and documentation such as reports related to grant objectives, professional development evaluations, and data collection for the program.

Work Hours

● A 10-month work schedule that closely aligns with the Hawai'i Department of Education's paid leave calendar;

● Monday through Friday, hours vary by site and are determined by the Site Manager;

● Consistent and reliable attendance;

● Some events and professional development may take place on evenings or weekends.

Working Conditions

● Program mobile sites in locations such as community centers, schools or churches, various event sites, meeting and professional development sites;

● Office setting;

● Travel in program vehicle to and from program site;

● Travel to the neighbor islands and continental U.S. may be required.

Equipment Use Program vehicle, office equipment (computer, video and camera, printer, copier, scanner, bluetooth speaker system, microphone and headphones, cell phone, laminator, shredder), site and facility equipment.

Physical:

● Capable of strenuous activities which include loading/unloading of program materials and equipment from the van, washing of vans and mats, set up and break down of program learning centers;

● Requires lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds on a regular basis;

● Must be able to sit and work on floor; kneel and bend;

● Outdoors: Exposure to sun, wind, dust, vog, etc.;

● Indoors: Exposure to normal office environments, A/C, fans, etc.

Communication:

● Exhibit courteous and professional demeanor towards program participants, staff, administration, and community partners via verbal, written, physical, and electronic correspondence;

● Able to discuss sensitive topics with caregivers without judgment;

● Able to address participants individually or in groups through speaking, demonstrating activities, singing, dancing, and signing;

● Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills;

● Properly handle and maintain highly confidential information.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Required:

● Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field and six (6) months of experience working with young keiki ages birth through five and their families; OR

● Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field and one (1) year of supervised experience working with young keiki ages birth through five and their families; OR

● Current Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential and one (1) year of supervised experience working with keiki ages birth through five and their families;

● Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Canva publishing and virtual meeting platforms;

● Must have a valid driver's license and a safe and responsible driving record.

Preferred:

● Six (6) months of experience using assessment and screening tools;

● Understanding of developmental screenings and assessments; preference with ECE instruments such as ASQ, and PPVT;

● Familiarity with databases such as QuickBase;

● Knowledge and understanding of Hawaiian culture and values.
