Manufacturing Sourcing & Procurement Manager
Location: Columbus, OH
Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Starting Salary: $100,000/year (higher compensation available based on experience)
We are seeking a hands-on procurement leader with experience supporting power systems, power distribution equipment, or related electrical manufacturing. This role will manage sourcing activities for metals, fabricated components, electrical materials, and other production requirements while developing a reliable supplier network.
The ideal candidate has direct experience purchasing copper bar stock or other electrical copper products and can understand material requirements from engineering models and drawings.
Key Responsibilities- Lead purchasing and sourcing activities for manufacturing operations
- Develop and implement supplier and commodity sourcing strategies
- Purchase copper bar stock, copper plate, sheet metal, aluminum, hardware, fabricated parts, and electrical components
- Evaluate material specifications, dimensions, and requirements using engineering drawings and models
- Interpret bar stock sizing and perform basic dimensional analysis
- Identify, qualify, and develop new domestic and external suppliers
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships
- Negotiate pricing, terms, lead times, and supply agreements
- Monitor supplier quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost performance
- Develop alternate sources to reduce supply-chain risk
- Identify cost-saving and purchasing efficiency opportunities
- Coordinate material requirements with engineering, production, planning, and project teams
- Monitor lead times, shortages, inventory levels, and potential production disruptions
- Support make-versus-buy decisions
- Maintain accurate purchasing, supplier, and inventory information within ERP/MRP systems
- Assist with supplier corrective actions and performance improvement
- Monitor market conditions affecting steel, copper, aluminum, and other commodities
- 5–10 years of procurement, purchasing, or supply chain experience in manufacturing
- Direct experience purchasing copper bar stock or electrical copper products is required
- Background in power systems, power distribution equipment, electrical equipment manufacturing, OEM, or contract manufacturing
- Experience purchasing sheet metal, copper, fabricated components, and other manufacturing commodities
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and models
- Ability to understand material dimensions and bar stock sizing
- Strong supplier negotiation and relationship-management skills
- Experience developing and qualifying new suppliers
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Operations, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered
- Busbar fabrication or electrical copper manufacturing
- Sheet metal fabrication
- Switchgear, PDUs, RPPs, STSs, or similar power-distribution equipment
- Custom, engineer-to-order (ETO), or make-to-order manufacturing
- Steel, copper, or aluminum commodity purchasing
- Supplier performance and corrective-action programs
- Lean manufacturing or inventory optimization
- Engineering or estimating experience involving material sizing and specifications
- Reliable material availability for production
- Strong supplier delivery and quality performance
- Reduced material shortages and expediting
- Improved purchasing costs and sourcing efficiency
- Development of a broader, more resilient supplier network
- Accurate inventory and procurement data
- Better alignment between sourcing activities and manufacturing schedules
