Job Description
Umpqua Community College is seeking an experienced Dental Hygiene Program Director to lead the development and launch of a new Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Dental Hygiene program.
This is a rare opportunity to build an academic program from the ground up—shaping its curriculum, clinical experiences, faculty team, facilities, partnerships, and student experience while guiding the program through Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accreditation.
For an experienced dental hygienist or dentist who enjoys both clinical practice and academic leadership, this role offers the chance to take an idea from planning to implementation and establish a program designed around the needs of students, employers, patients, and the region.
This isn't a role where you'll simply step into an established playbook.
You'll help create the playbook.
You'll have the opportunity to determine what a strong dental hygiene education experience looks like at UCC—from the first curriculum conversations and accreditation documents to the clinical partnerships and learning environments that prepare graduates for practice.
You'll also build relationships across the college and throughout the dental community, connecting education with the workforce needs of Douglas County.
Umpqua Community College is a comprehensive rural community college serving Southern Oregon with a strong commitment to access, workforce development, and regional impact. UCC plays a vital role in preparing students for high-demand careers while strengthening the communities it serves.
Located in beautiful Southern Oregon, Roseburg sits between the Cascade and Coastal mountain ranges, offering easy access to hiking, biking, camping, fishing, skiing, and water recreation along the Umpqua River. The region is also home to more than 40 wineries, a growing brewery scene, and a vibrant downtown. With the charm of a close-knit community and convenient access to Eugene and Portland via I-5, Roseburg offers an exceptional quality of life for professionals and families alike.
What You'll Build

You'll:
- Lead the planning, development, and launch of the new AAS Dental Hygiene program.
- Establish program mission, goals, outcomes, policies, and procedures aligned with UCC priorities and regional workforce needs.

- Establish competency expectations, assessment processes, and continuous improvement practices.
- Help develop and oversee dental hygiene laboratories and clinical facilities, including infection control, radiation safety, patient care, and clinical documentation requirements.

- Recruit, mentor, supervise, and evaluate dental hygiene faculty and instructional support staff.
- Teach assigned dental hygiene courses as part of the faculty workload.
- Develop student admissions, advising, progression, retention, and academic support processes.
- Monitor program outcomes, including completion, licensure examination performance, and employment.
- Develop and manage program budgets, equipment plans, instructional resources, and capital needs.
- Use data and feedback to continually strengthen curriculum, instruction, clinical education, and student outcomes.
