General Description/Primary Purpose:
The 1919 Hotel, a 14-room boutique hotel affiliated with Murray State College's hospitality program, is seeking an experienced part time Operations Manager to serve as second-in-command to the General Manager. This is a unique opportunity within a teaching-hotel environment, where you'll help train, mentor, and supervise student staff learning the hospitality trade across front desk, housekeeping, breakfast service, and bar/F&B operations.
Classification: Part-time Staff, Non-Exempt
Appointment: 12-month
Description of Job Functions:
Serve as the on-site leadership presence during evenings and on the GM's scheduled days
off, including weekends, ensuring the property always has a manager on duty
Oversee daily operations across front desk, housekeeping, and food & beverage, ensuring
SOPs are followed consistently
Train, coach, and evaluate student employees, reinforcing customer service standards and
hands-on skill-building
Handle guest concerns, service recovery, and on-the-spot decision-making in the GM's
absence, including approving comps/refunds within policy limits
Monitor staffing coverage and step in to fill gaps across departments as needed
Support scheduling, shift changeovers, and communication between departments
(breakfast service, evening bar service, housekeeping turnover)
Assist with maintenance issue tracking and escalate urgent items appropriately
Uphold property standards for cleanliness, safety, and guest experience
Other duties as assigned.
Complete all training assigned by the Human Resources Department.

Availability for evening and weekend shifts required
Experience working with students, interns, or in an educational setting a plus
Ability to remain calm and solutions-focused in fast-paced situations
Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and remain on your feet for extended periods
Hours:
Part-time hours will not exceed 29 hours per week. Hours may include the evenings and weekends.
Qualification Standards:
Minimum Educational Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required
Preferred Experience: Previous supervisory or management experience in hotels, restaurants, or hospitality.
