Schedule: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, Day/Evening, Hours can vary
Position Summary:
The Nursing Skills Lab Coordinator for COHC plays a crucial role in enhancing the educational experience of nursing students by managing and coordinating skills laboratory activities. The Nursing Skills Lab Coordinator works closely with faculty, students, and administration in both the RN and PN programs to ensure the smooth operation of the skills lab, facilitating hands-on learning experiences, and maintaining a safe and supportive environment. The Nursing Skills Lab Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the implementation of skills-based curricula, organizing training sessions, and staying abreast of advancements in nursing education technology. The Nursing Skills Lab Coordinator exercises discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance daily and reports to the Director of Clinical Education.

Skills Lab and Program Management
Oversees the day-to-day operations of the skills laboratory
Plans, schedules, and coordinates skills lab activities, including remediation, in coordination with faculty
Maintains organized equipment, supplies, and resources necessary for skills training
Orders equipment and supplies for the skills laboratory within the allowed budget
Ensures that the skills lab environment complies with safety standards and infection control protocols
Creates and updates academic resources, including manuals, guides, and multimedia materials, to support skills lab activities
Maintains and file student records, grade reports, and rosters
Communicates follow-up to Directors and faculty verbally and in writing
Regulatory Compliance
Ensures programs meet the regulatory requirements as defined by the New York State Office of Professions, New York State Education Department (NYSED), the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) and other allied health accreditation agencies.
Develops and promotes structures, programs, policies, and procedures that enhance the student experience
Curriculum Development & Implementation
Provides instruction in nursing skills development to ensure alignment with course objectives, standardization of instruction across each nursing program, and compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and industry standards of best practice
Participates and/or develops scenarios for low and medium-fidelity simulations in the nursing skills laboratory
Assists in curriculum implementation according to the standards of the ACEN, NLN, QSEN, and the New York State Board of Nursing and Department of Education
Incorporates the latest instructional technologies and interactive learning technologies in course delivery
Effectively teaches and facilitates learning experiences by creating and implementing skills lab activities, providing constructive feedback, and assessing student performance
Collaborates with IT and the simulation coordinator to integrate cutting-edge technologies into the skills lab environment
Skills Assessment and Evaluation
Develops and implements assessment tools to evaluate students' proficiency in clinical skills
Performs final skills testing as a determination of student progression
Conducts remediation of students when skill performance is unsatisfactory or is identified as a need for further support
Collaborates with faculty to assess the effectiveness of skills lab activities
Training, Faculty Engagement, and Collaboration
Conducts orientation sessions for students to familiarize them with the skills lab and its resources
Provides training to faculty on the use of skills lab equipment and newly developed curriculum materials
Fosters effective communication among faculty, students, and staff regarding skills lab activities and updates
Communicates with faculty verbally and in writing to provide timely feedback regarding students' progress in the skills lab
Communicates with the senior director, program directors and/or course coordinator, and team members regarding student concerns and issues
Collaborates with clinical partners and healthcare facilities to enhance experiential learning opportunities
The Skills Lab Coordinator may be required to teach courses throughout the calendar year in addition to assigned duties and responsibilities
Other Responsibilities
Collaborates closely with technical support staff to address repairs, maintenance, and upgrades of the lab and equipment
Utilizes data to document the achievement of outcomes and to drive decisions for changes and growth
Conducts monthly lab meetings
Participates in faculty and curriculum team meetings
Participates with faculty in the development of course objectives, evaluation of total curriculum, and revision of program policies
Models professional standards, including customer service, collaboration, communication, excellence, and attendance
Demonstrates excellence in academia by engaging in scholarship
Actively engages in professional development and clinical practice (one shift per month) to ensure currency with best practices
Travels to all COHC lab sites as often as required, weekly and/or daily
Undertakes additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned
Desired Attributes:
Previous teaching and skills lab coordination experience
Knowledge of clinical practice of nursing
Knowledge of diverse organization environments in which students/graduates practice
Ability to communicate effectively—interpersonally, orally, and in writing to engage a variety of constituents

Capacity to work in a highly collaborative environment with distributed leadership

Skills in operating a PC and Mac with experience in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment
Minimum Qualifications:
2+ years of clinical nursing experience within the last 5 years
Master's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education
Required Licensure/Certification:
Current unencumbered licensure in New York State as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN)
Certified in American Heart Association BLS CPR
Must obtain Certified Academic Nurse Educator certification issued by National League for Nursing within two years of hire

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
PAY RANGE: $95,000.00 - $105,000.00
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
