Job Description

POSITION: Gas Operations Technician Trainee

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Gas

JOB OBJECTIVE: Provide Easton Utilities gas customers with dependable and consistent quality service through the construction and maintenance of Easton Utilities natural gas distribution pipeline system, regulators and customer service lines. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with on-call requirements.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Good verbal communication skills and ability to work well with customers, contractors and fellow employees.

• Knowledge of basic report preparation, ability to do arithmetic calculations, knowledge of computers and computer operating systems.

• Ability to understand construction drawings and blueprints.

• Ability to operate backhoe, mini-excavator, air compressors and related construction equipment.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and directions.

• Maintain a neat appearance.

• May require the need to work in excess of an 8 hour day.

• Must possess valid CDL Class A or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire date.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent.

• Must maintain Easton Utilities’ Operator Qualifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Job involves working outside in all weather conditions as well as climbing, lifting, bending, digging and the ability to push, pull and lift 60 pounds on a regular basis.

• Must pass annual respirator fit test. Possess the ability to work safely in a hazardous atmosphere while utilizing flame resistant gear and breathing apparatus.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:

Work under direction of Superintendent of Gas:

• Perform natural gas distribution pipeline construction which includes the installation, repair and maintenance of live natural gas mains and services.

• Operate vehicles, construction equipment as well as various hand, power and pneumatic tools.

• Receive instruction and direction from superiors.

• Continue training made available by Easton Utilities and maintain qualification under Easton Utilities Operator Qualification Plan.

• Understand and observe all Federal, State and Easton Utilities safety rules and regulations. (Md PSC, DOT/OPS, EUC O&M and Construction Standards)

• Detect and report to proper supervision any unusual conditions, difficulties, malfunctions or other matters.

• Insure proper maintenance of vehicles, tools, equipment and work materials and maintain in good clean working order.

• Subject to emergency on-call.

• Regular, reliable attendance is a requirement of this job.
