ABOUT BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF GREATER WASHINGTON

For more than 140 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington has given young people across the District, suburban Maryland, and Northern Virginia a place to belong. Our Clubs serve nearly 9,000 youth each year through academic support, workforce readiness, athletics, the arts, and mentorship from adults who show up consistently.

That work is paid for by people and companies who believe a child's zip code should not set the ceiling on their life. This role exists to grow that base of support.

THE ROLE

The Associate Director of Development grows revenue from BGCGW's corporate partners and mid-level individual donors. You will carry a personal portfolio, hold a personal revenue goal, and work directly with members of our six regional boards to open doors in their networks.

This is a relationship job. You will spend more time in front of people than behind a desk, and you will be measured on gifts closed and relationships deepened. It suits someone with a sales instinct who is also genuinely moved by the mission, and who can hold both of those things at once.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

Corporate Partnerships (40%)

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of ~30 existing corporate partners, converting renewals into larger and multi-year commitments.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit new corporate prospects, with particular focus on companies operating in the communities our Clubs serve.
  • Qualify inbound volunteer, in-kind, and service partnership inquiries, and convert the promising ones into financial support.
  • Support the Grants team with content and submit corporate grant proposals and letters of inquiry.

Mid-Level Individual Giving (30%)

  • Build and manage a personal portfolio of 75 - 100 individuals giving between $1,000 and $9,999 annually.
  • Qualify, cultivate, and solicit prospects surfaced by signature events, Club tours, and donor gatherings, and move them into sustained giving relationships.
  • Identify donors ready for major gift consideration and transition them to the Chief Development Officer with a documented strategy and a warm handoff.

Regional Board Engagement (20%)

  • Serve as the primary development staff liaison to BGCGW's six regional boards.
  • Coach board members through identifying, cultivating, and soliciting prospects in their own networks, and staff them through those conversations.
  • Produce the proposals, briefing materials, and follow-up that board members need to be effective fundraisers.

Pipeline Discipline (10%)

  • Maintain complete, current records in Salesforce for every relationship you touch, including contact reports filed within five business days.
  • Report portfolio activity and progress against goal to the Chief Development Officer on a monthly cadence.
  • Coordinate with Marketing & Communications and Club-facing staff so donors receive consistent messaging and a well-run experience.

HOW WE WILL MEASURE SUCCESS

In your first year, we expect you to:

  1. Generate $250,000 in net new/incremental revenue, combining corporate growth above the existing base and new mid-level individual gifts closed.
  2. Close 30-35 new mid-level individual gifts by year-end and secure upgrades from existing mid-level donors, totaling $170,000 in mid-level revenue growth.
  3. Renew 80% of existing corporate partners (in 2027) and grow total corporate revenue by 20% ($80,000).
  4. Complete at least 130 face-to-face donor and partner visits.
  5. Have every one of the six regional boards contributing at least three to five active board-sourced prospects to the pipeline.

These targets are set with the Chief Development Officer at hire and reviewed quarterly.

WHAT YOU BRING

Required

  • Minimum of five years in fundraising, sales, or business development, with a documented record of closing gifts or contracts.
  • Demonstrated success managing a portfolio of relationships and carrying a revenue goal.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to make a direct ask and handle the conversation that follows.
  • Discipline with CRM records and the organization to move many relationships forward at once.
  • Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Commitment to BGCGW's mission and to the highest ethical standards in donor relationships, with sensitivity to the young people and families we serve.
  • Ability to travel independently across the District, suburban Maryland, and Northern Virginia, and to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred

  • Corporate partnership, sponsorship, or account management experience.
  • Experience staffing volunteer boards or fundraising committees.
  • Salesforce experience. Salesforce is BGCGW's system of record; experience with Raiser's Edge NXT or DonorPerfect transfers well.
  • CFRE certification.

WORK ARRANGEMENT AND TRAVEL

This position is hybrid. You will work from our administrative office at 4103 Benning Road NE, Washington, DC at least two days per week. The balance of your time will be split between remote work and time in the field at Club sites, donor meetings, and events across the DMV. Expect regular local travel and occasional evening and weekend work.

BGCGW provides a laptop and mobile phone. A reliable home internet connection is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ADA

This role requires the ability to communicate clearly in person, by telephone, and in writing, and to operate a computer and mobile phone. It requires regular local travel to Club sites, donor meetings, and community events, including sites that may involve stairs or extended standing. Office-based work is primarily sedentary. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
