Job Description

Teaching Assistant – Special Education & Behavioral Support

Full-Time | Monday–Friday | Day Shift

Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Teaching Assistant to support students in a therapeutic educational setting. Working alongside the classroom teacher, you will assist with instruction, behavior support, classroom activities, and student supervision to help children succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with classroom instruction and daily learning activities.
  • Support implementation of individualized educational and behavioral plans.
  • Provide supervision and promote a safe, structured learning environment.
  • Help maintain student records and classroom organization.
  • Use positive behavior support and crisis prevention techniques when needed.
  • Communicate student progress and concerns with teachers and treatment team members.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Maine State Paraprofessional Certification
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred:

  • 90+ college credits and/or Education Technician Certification through the Maine Department of Education
  • Experience working with children or adolescents, especially those with behavioral or emotional challenges
  • Previous educational or administrative support experience
