This is an opportunity for an experienced systems administrator to support mission-critical federal research and operational environments. In this role, you will manage and optimize multi-platform infrastructure spanning UNIX/Linux, Windows, and macOS systems while ensuring high availability, security compliance, and operational resilience. You will play a key role in supporting scientific and national-scale network programs, contributing to cloud, virtualization, and enterprise systems initiatives. The position combines hands-on technical administration with cybersecurity responsibilities, including vulnerability management and federal compliance alignment. Working in a highly collaborative and mission-driven environment, you will also support incident response, system modernization, and infrastructure improvements. - Administer, configure, maintain, and upgrade enterprise systems across UNIX/Linux, Windows, and macOS environments, ensuring stability and performance.
- Install software releases, apply system patches, and troubleshoot technical issues across multi-platform infrastructure.
- Manage system security configurations in alignment with Federal cybersecurity frameworks, including FISMA, NIST 800-53, and RMF requirements.
- Perform system backup, recovery operations, and contribute to enterprise backup architecture planning and data integrity assurance.
- Support network and infrastructure components including DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VPNs, load balancing, and web services.
- Conduct vulnerability scanning and coordinate remediation efforts in accordance with security policies and compliance standards.
- Support Assessment & Authorization (A&A) processes and Risk Management Framework (RMF) documentation and activities.
- Maintain system documentation including operational procedures, design specifications, and test plans.
- Monitor, triage, and resolve service tickets while maintaining logs and system visibility using tools such as Graylog and BigFix.
- Support virtualization, containerization, and cloud infrastructure environments, contributing to system scalability and modernization.
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to critical incidents to ensure continuity of operations.
- Assist with IT asset management, inventory tracking, and infrastructure lifecycle planning.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior systems administration staff as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 4–6 years of enterprise systems administration experience in multi-platform environments.
- Strong proficiency in UNIX/Linux systems administration, including shell scripting and command-line tools.
- Extensive experience with Windows Server administration, Active Directory, and desktop environments.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and firewall configuration.
- Experience with patch management, system hardening, vulnerability scanning, and security best practices.
- Familiarity with Federal cybersecurity frameworks such as FISMA, NIST 800-53, and RMF compliance requirements.
- Experience with enterprise backup and recovery tools such as Druva or equivalent platforms.
- Ability to manage complex technical environments independently and make sound operational decisions.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills in high-availability environments.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the United States and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- Experience with virtualization (VMware, KVM), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), or cloud platforms is a plus.
- Familiarity with tools such as Jamf Pro, BigFix, Graylog, PDQ, Jira, or ServiceNow is highly desirable.
