Job Description

Job Title: Millwright Department: Operations Reports To: Maintenance Manager/Maintenance Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: Welding, rigging, carpentry, and mechanical alignment and installation of machinery. A Millwright will be able to assess any mechanical issues involving machinery and building maintenance

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Includes the following, other duties may be assigned.

• Read blue prints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures. • Dismantle machinery or equipment, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools. • Moves machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks. • Assembles and installs equipment, such as shafting, conveyors, and tram rails, using hand tools and power tools. • Constructs foundation for machines, using hand tools and building materials, such as wood cement, and steel. • Aligns machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, lasers, and plumb bobs. • Assembles machinery and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools. • May operate engine lathe or milling machine to grind, file, and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications. • Required repair and lubricate machinery and equipment. • Selects cables, ropes, chains, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved. • Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains, to crane hook. • Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment’s, using hand tools and power wrenches. • May direct workers engaged in hoisting of machinery and equipment. • In addition may perform all duties of General Laborer, Skilled Laborer and Carpenter and possibly electrician.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.

Modern millwrights should be able to: o Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy. o Follow instructions and read blueprints. o Look at flat drawings or pictures and visualize how they would look as solid objects. o Work at heights without fear. o Use logical step-by-step procedures in work. o Plan work and solve problems. o Make decisions based on measurable information. o Perform a variety of duties which may change often; and operate machinery.

Education and/or Experience: Associates degree or equivalent from a higher education center or technical school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Payroll systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
