Position Summary
The Director of Finance owns the group reporting layer across all nine entities — consolidation, intercompany, foreign-currency translation, technical accounting, forecasting and audit — so that the CFO can concentrate on capital, tax structure, transactions and executive matters. Day-to-day transaction processing is owned by a separate Canada-based team; your accountability is the accuracy, timeliness and defensibility of what is reported on top of it.
This is a build role, not a maintenance role. The Group’s reporting currently carries known open items — unreconciled intercompany balances across jurisdictions, a derived equity plug, no formal foreign-exchange policy, and inconsistent sign conventions between entity ledgers. You will be expected to close these out, put the supporting policies and controls in place, and hold them there.
You will manage a team of two — an Accounting Manager and a Senior Accountant — and are accountable for their output, their development and the quality of what reaches the CFO. With a team this size relative to nine entities, you will remain hands-on: expect to prepare as well as review. You report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
Read this next paragraph carefully before applying. The Canada-based Controller owns the traditional accounting cycle and reports to the CFO, not to you. You nonetheless own the group close calendar, the reporting standards, the technical accounting positions and every deliverable that depends on that team’s output. This role therefore requires you to run a process across a team you do not manage, twelve time zones from your own, using clear service standards, documented handoffs and early escalation rather than hierarchy. Candidates who have only operated with direct line authority over everyone who feeds their numbers will find this role difficult.
The Group and the Scope of the Role
The Group comprises nine legal entities operating across Canada, the United States and Barbados. The successful candidate supports all nine:
Three operating companies — Family Focus (community health and support services), HavenPoint Health (clinic and independent medical examination operations) and Prolexity (professional services).
Six corporate, holding and investment entities — comprising Canadian, U.S. and Barbados holding companies, a management services company and an investment/rental holding entity.
The Group reports in Canadian dollars with material U.S. dollar and Barbados dollar activity, extensive intercompany and shareholder-loan balances, a shared-services cost pool allocated across entities, and a recurring group reporting package of eight standard schedules plus standalone entity packages that must agree to the consolidated result. This is a genuinely multi-entity, multi-currency, multi-jurisdiction environment. It is not a single-ledger bookkeeping job.
How the finance function is structuredGroup finance operates as two teams reporting to the Chief Financial Officer:
A Canada-based team — Controller, staff accountant and accounts payable clerk — which owns the traditional accounting cycle: accounts payable and receivable, disbursements, payroll administration, general-ledger posting, and Canadian statutory compliance, through to an entity-level trial balance. The Controller reports directly to the CFO.
A Philippines-based team — Director of Finance, Accounting Manager and Senior Accountant — which owns everything built on top of those ledgers: group close and consolidation, intercompany reconciliation, foreign-currency translation, the shared-services allocation, group and entity reporting, budgeting and forecasting and technical accounting.
The two teams are interdependent. The Philippines team relies on the Canadian team for timely, accurate source data; the Canadian team relies on the Philippines team for the consolidation, reporting, analysis and technical accounting built on top of it. Working effectively across that boundary — across a twelve-hour time difference, and without a shared reporting line below the CFO — is a core requirement of every role on this team, not an incidental one.
The Philippines team holds full general-ledger access across all nine entities and the authority to post adjusting, reclassifying and consolidation entries. Ownership of the transaction cycle sits in Canada; responsibility for the accuracy of the reported result sits in the Philippines.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial reporting and consolidationOwn the monthly close calendar across all nine entities and deliver a hard close within an agreed number of business days.
Own the consolidation, including intercompany eliminations, foreign-currency translation and the shared-services allocation, and be able to defend every material balance.
Own the recurring group reporting suite: the group month-end package; budget versus actual and cash-burn reporting; the 13-week cash forecast; trending statements by entity; payroll analysis; and the owner-draw and professional-fees analyses.
Ensure each standalone entity package agrees to the consolidated result without manual bridging, and that missing entities or missing source data are flagged explicitly on every reporting cycle rather than quietly estimated.
Own the reconciliation of all intercompany due to/from accounts across the Canadian, U.S. and Barbados entities, including the resolution of legacy differences and sign-convention errors.
Maintain and substantiate shareholder loan accounts, owner draws and related-party balances, with a clear audit trail for each movement.
Drive equity to a substantiated position rather than a derived plug, and maintain a documented balance-sheet substantiation file for every entity.
Own the annual budget process and the rolling forecast across all entities, including driver-based operating forecasts and the entity-level KPI models.
Own the 13-week cash forecast and the Group liquidity view, and escalate funding requirements to the CFO with lead time, not at the point of failure.
Deliver variance analysis with a stated cause and a recommended action, not a table of differences.
Track performance against the Group’s EBITDA-margin improvement targets by entity and report progress monthly.
Manage, review and develop the Accounting Manager and the Senior Accountant; set objectives, run one-to-ones and manage performance directly.
Partner with the Canadian Controller as an equal on delivery. Where source data is late, incomplete or inconsistent, raise it early, in writing, with the specific impact on the close — and escalate to the CFO promptly rather than absorbing the delay and reporting late.
Review before the CFO reviews. Work that reaches the CFO should be finished work.
Deputise for the CFO on operational finance matters and in dealings with operating-company management.
Philippine CPA, or an equivalent professional designation (CPA, ACCA) in good standing.
Minimum ten years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including at least four years managing a team.
Demonstrated ownership of a multi-entity consolidation with intercompany eliminations and foreign-currency translation. This is the single most important screen for this role.
Direct experience reporting to or working alongside a CFO or Financial Controller in a North American reporting environment.
Demonstrated experience delivering to deadline in a split or distributed finance function, dependent on colleagues in another location or another reporting line. Be prepared to describe a specific example at interview.
Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP or Canadian ASPE/IFRS, and the confidence to research and take a position on a technical treatment.
Advanced Excel — complex model construction, large data sets, links across workbooks, and the discipline to build models that another person can audit.
Experience preparing audit workpapers and dealing directly with external auditors.
Fluent written and spoken English (C1 or above).
Demonstrated history of working a permanent U.S. Eastern Time schedule.
Exposure to Canadian tax and payroll compliance (GST/HST, T2, source deductions) and/or U.S. and offshore structures.
Experience in healthcare, clinical, community-services or professional-services businesses.
QuickBooks Online at an administrator level across multiple company files; experience migrating or consolidating ledgers.
Prior experience in a company under financial pressure — tight cash, cost reduction, turnaround — rather than only in stable, well-resourced finance functions.
Experience building or leading an offshore finance team supporting a North American parent.
Full close calendar and responsibility matrix documented and operating across all nine entities.
Written assessment delivered to the CFO of every open reconciling item, ranked by dollar value and audit risk, with a remediation plan and dates.
Month-end package delivered on the agreed date without CFO rework.
Intercompany balances agreed across all entity pairs, or every remaining difference formally quantified, explained and scheduled for resolution.
Foreign-exchange, intercompany and shared-services allocation policies drafted, approved and applied.
Written service standards between the Philippines and Canadian teams agreed with the Controller, in operation, and reported against monthly.
Close cycle reduced to the agreed target and sustained for three consecutive months.
Team performing at a standard where CFO review is confirmatory rather than corrective.
Fluent written and spoken English is a hard requirement (CEFR C1 or equivalent). You will draft reporting commentary, correspond directly with external auditors, tax advisers and lawyers, and present analysis to the CFO and the CEO. Written English will be assessed during the interview process through a live written exercise.
Core working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time, Monday to Friday — approximately 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Philippine Standard Time.
This is a permanent night-shift role, not an occasional accommodation. Please only apply if you have worked this schedule before and can sustain it indefinitely.
Additional flexibility is required during month-end close, audit fieldwork and statutory deadlines.
Public holidays follow the Group’s North American calendar; Philippine holidays are taken as flexible days by arrangement.
Reliable primary internet connection of at least 25 Mbps with a documented backup connection (secondary ISP or mobile data).
A backup power arrangement sufficient to complete a working shift, given the overnight schedule.
A quiet, private workspace suitable for calls involving confidential financial and personnel information.
Group financial data is held in Group-controlled cloud systems. No local storage of Group financial records, payroll data or shareholder information on personal devices.
Two-factor authentication on all Group systems, full-disk encryption and current endpoint protection are mandatory.
Signed confidentiality and intellectual-property assignment terms are a condition of engagement. This role has visibility into executive compensation, shareholder loan activity and owner draws; discretion is not optional.
Full-time, permanent, home-based in the Philippines. Engagement will be through an established Philippine Employer of Record or BPO partner; the provider will be confirmed before an offer is issued.
Compensation is quoted and paid in U.S. dollars.
Statutory entitlements apply, including 13th-month pay and the night-shift differential for hours worked between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Annual performance review with a discretionary performance component tied to the measures set out above.
The Group is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates are assessed on demonstrated capability against the requirements above.
How to ApplySubmit a CV in English together with a short covering note (maximum one page) addressing three points: (1) the most complex multi-entity or multi-currency close you have personally been responsible for; (2) a control or process weakness you identified and fixed, and what it was worth; and (3) confirmation that you have previously worked a permanent U.S. Eastern Time night shift and can sustain it.
Shortlisted candidates will complete a timed practical exercise in Excel and a live written-English task. Final-stage candidates will be asked to review a set of draft entity financials and present findings verbally to the CFO.
