Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and detail-oriented Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our pulmonary
practice. The CMA will work closely with pulmonologists, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other clinical staff to provide high-quality patient care and support the efficient operation of the office. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with patients who have respiratory conditions, demonstrates excellent communication and organizational skills, and can provide professional, empathetic care in a fast-paced clinical environment.Essential Responsibilities

- Welcome and room patients in a professional and compassionate manner.
- Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, oxygen saturation, and medication/allergy information.
- Obtain and update medical histories and reconcile medications.
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during office procedures.
- Perform and document clinical tasks within the scope of certification and applicable state regulations.
- Assist with pulmonary testing and respiratory-related procedures as trained and directed, such as spirometry, peak flow testing, pulse oximetry, and other diagnostic testing.
- Educate patients on physician-directed treatment plans, medications, testing procedures, and follow-up instructions.
- Monitor and report changes in patient condition or abnormal test results to the appropriate clinical staff.
- Coordinate laboratory work, imaging, referrals, and other diagnostic services as needed.
- Administer medications and injections as permitted by state regulations and office protocols.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Assist with prescription refill requests and communicate with pharmacies as directed.
- Answer patient telephone calls, portal messages, and routine clinical questions, escalating concerns appropriately.
- Schedule appointments, procedures, testing, and follow-up visits as needed.
- Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked examination rooms and clinical areas.
- Follow infection-control, OSHA, HIPAA, and patient-safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with prior authorizations and other clinical administrative duties when needed.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the clinical team.
- Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from an accredited certifying organization.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous medical office or clinical experience preferred; pulmonary or specialty-office experience is a plus.
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or required according to practice policy.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and basic clinical procedures.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and standard office technology.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and professionalism in a busy clinical environment.
