Job Description
The Engineering Records Technician I is responsible for entry level archival and records management duties. This job is under close supervision of the Engineering Records Archivist and performs archival duties required in the proper administration of engineering records and archives including reports, plans and other documents created by the Fairfax Water Engineering and Construction Division.
This position is Part-time, 20–35 hours/week with flexible scheduling; no benefits.
Performs entry level processing, preservation and maintenance of records and related work by:
- Obtains guidance for retaining appropriate documents and discarding information not required for permanent files within guidelines established by Fairfax Water and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Performs rehousing of paper materials according to preservation standards.
- Scans paper records for access.
- Performs research from existing records and completed construction plans for staff.
- Maintains paper and electronic archives.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- Graduation from high school or GED. A minimum of one year of experience in archives or records management, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and knowledge is preferred.
- Knowledge of records management with ability to organize files is desirable.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of Windows environment, MS Word and MS Excel applications on a personal computer.
- Familiarity with construction plans, documents and specifications is a plus.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
- Ability to travel to company facilities.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Must pass a controlled substance (drug) test for employment.
- Ability to lift up 30 pounds.
- Must be able to stand for the entire duration of an 8-hour shift, performing tasks at a scanner.
- This not a remote role - The position is hybrid/flexible after training.
