POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the facility and property maintenance repairs of the Catholic Social Services. Responsibilities include working with their supervisor and the Board of Trustees on code compliance on building systems, working knowledge and ability of HVAC, electrical, water, basic plumbing, sheet rocking, painting, and repairs on structural systems.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT

The Catholic Social Services Facilities Team is a rigorous team that strives to provide the best possible service to the agency. Driven by agency focus and leadership goals the Facilities Team is constantly assigned special projects on top of the day-to-day agency tasks and work schedule.

There are seven commercial buildings in total in the Anchorage area. The Catholic Social Services main center at 4600 DeBarr Rd, St. Francis Food Pantry, Welcome Center, 3Rd Ave Resource Center, Brother Francis Shelter, Complex Care Shelter, Clare House. Our residential apartments include 1, 4-plex and 2 duplexes’.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Must be able to maintain program/guest/agency confidentiality and treat everyone with dignity and respect.

Must have knowledge of and follow all relevant personnel, process and plant safety procedures and must exercise mature judgement to determine when to hire third party expertise to plan and/or execute repair or replacement activities.

The Facilities Technician must possess excellent facility maintenance and repair skills, and basic administrative skills including computer experience, written and oral communication skills, self-confidence, initiative, flexibility, good supervisory skills, high degree of professionalism and personal commitment to excellence in human services to support social service delivery.

Must be a team player, demonstrate motivation, exercise discretion and dependability, adhere to business profession code of ethics, and function well under stressful conditions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Follow and execute a facilities maintenance plan for each CSS site.

Safely and efficiently perform or engage third parties to perform work assignments for buildings and grounds

including emergencies if or when needed.

Efficiently and expertly perform work assignments for buildings and grounds.

Ensure agency properties are safely operated and maintained.

Supervise and inspect contract services and facility services needed to maintain buildings and grounds, including snow removal and landscaping.

Use and evaluate agency facility maintenance software programs used to perform, monitor, open or close work orders.

Ensure facilities are compliant with all facility and property codes, including disability accessibility, fire, elevator, etc.

Conduct daily/monthly routine inspections of buildings and grounds and arrange for safety and health inspections.

Perform basic repairs and preventative maintenance to HVAC, sprinkler system, water, electric, and structural systems in facilities.

Must be able to respond to emergency needs of the facilities or be able to coordinate with contractors for emergency repairs and or needs of facilities while on call rotation.

Ensure the successful daily upkeep of facilities and properties.

Purchase and maintain inventory maintenance supplies and equipment for facilities.

Prepare and respond to work orders in a timely manner, reports, timesheets, material/equipment requisitions and other inventory control methods and personnel actions.

Maintain liaison with building tenants, program participants, clients etc.

Participate in agency Continuous Quality Improvement including committees and task forces and training as required.

Possess a valid Alaska driver’s license. Travel is required and necessary. Regular and reliable attendance.

Must have reliable transportation to respond to emergencies after hours.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education Requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience Requirement: Three (3) years in commercial/residential facility property management repairs.

A relevant combination of education and experience may be considered.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment: The facilities team will constantly work in different environments. Including a standard commercial indoor office environment, residential apartment setting, or outdoors in inclement weather. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Physical demands: Using ladders, crawlspace access, rooftop access, shoveling, moving office furniture, hauling construction material. Discarding old office furniture to a dump site, loading/unloading at dump site. Discarding used construction materials and or haul to dump site with or without team members. Assisting other Catholic Social Services employees if needed in coordination with donated goods collection.

Job site travel will vary based off location assignment. Employees will use personal vehicles from job site to job site or CSS may provide transportation if available.

Travel out of Alaska will never be required, travel within Anchorage is required. Travel to the Matanuska-Susitna Borough may be required on special assignment.


Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm.
